One bonus with the Cactus is buying a set of spark plugs: every set of four contains one spare.

Hi all, having just returned from a two week trip to the USA I looked at the cars on the USA roads and a lot of them do not have position lights especially the New York taxis which are mostly a mix of Toyota,Nissan and a few others, even the police cars didn't have position lights so things may well have changed.

I think they are integrated in to the light units now, rather than being totally separate. They have relaxed their laws a bit.

Not very much to report so rather quiet on this topic.

The car keeps mile munching without any problems and I did about 60K miles since I bought it from Robert. But today I found a damaged drive shaft gaiter whilst swapping my old exhaust. The gaiter was original Citroen and I did swap that one a good while ago. Citroen dealer wasn't open on Friday for parts so I'll see if I can find something online unless somebody offers me some surplus new gaiters

The front part of my exhaust was still original (02-95) but with a whole in it and the rear part was swapped in 2001, both original PSA parts.

I bought this new exhaust for just under 200 euro's including delivery (including the rear box which is not on the picture) and it is made in Poland I think, Ferrozo I think is the brand. Well it fits so that's good and it will last me a couple of years I hope. It sounds rather different and hads a fine deep grumbling and louder noise but not at all bad. I do wonder why the original exhaust had this funny looped part that the new one hasn't.

Might explain the difference in exhaust tone. Quite like to know too why that is there, and not on your new one.

I would think it cancels out the exhaust pulsing by separating the pulses of gas and giving one a shorter route so they merge out of sync and cancel each other out, I made a similar setup for mine and it reduces the noise at the tailpipe substantially in the petrol.

AHHH. That makes sense, as both my 2.1's had and have very quiet exhaust tail pipes.

The original diagrams in the Citroen Workshop Manual show 3 types of exhaust.
The XU10 (R2A & R6A) and the XUD11 (P9A) are the same with no bypass tube to the cross box.
The ZPJ (SFZ) & ZPJ4 (SKZ) are twin piped with only one of the pipes routed through the cross box.
Note: The front pipes are shown separate for each bank on the ZPJ4 and combined on the ZPJ.
The XUD11 (P8A) shows a small diameter bypass pipe to the cross box.
Note: As well as being small diameter the bypass pipe is shown with right angle entry and exit, none of the smooth shaped joints seen on the V6 pipes.

She did it again.....annoying me...But as long as it remains with these small things, I can forgive her. And it was quite reasonable weather for Irish standards (as in overcast but NOT raining) when my drivers window wouldn't go up. Dismantled it again last night to find out it was only the plug that was still securely fastened (by me with tie wraps since it is not the original motor). Nevertheless the plug showed signs inside of some corrosion which was easily dealt with. All good now but I'm done now servicing and swapping CV boots cause there's a good trip planned to some more sunshine soon. Can't wait

When parting a connector add a bit of grease to stop corrosion.
