My first XM back in 2004

Post by XMBloke » Thu May 23, 2013 3:56 pm

Image

This was my first XM. One of only two cars I've ever regretted selling. (the other one was a 1986 Audi Coupe GT 2.2)
This one had manual gearbox, air-con, full leather with every electric goody known to mankind. Unfortunately the AC went wrong and leather interiors are hell in hot weather. Sold it just before getting married in 2005. Just wondering if its still on the road?
1995 XM 2.1 auto hatchback RP 6717. Sold on for spares or repair.
1992 Rover 216 GTi twincam 16v 130 bhp. Unbreakable mechanicals, bodywork - less so.

2015 - Still waiting for the hover conversion kit but do wear two neckties at same time.

Sorry to hear that the car is no longer about and I am guessing you might be tempted to find another! Strangely I do not find the black leather a problem, even without working aircon, at least not during the last few so-called 'summers'!! Regards, Matthew T.

I sold this on to an XM specialist down London way. (Can't remember the name). Regarding the aircon, I'd taken it to a Citroen dealership in Great Dunmow and they pressure tested it then refilled it with refrigerant then a week or so later I heard a loud hiss from inside the car and the aircon failed. Damn annoying as the leak was from inside the dashboard. I've done dashboard out repairs in other makes of car but I didn't fancy this job as at the time the car was in daily use. However I do miss the leather interior and the series One dashboard. Once took some work friends to a team do and they said it was like riding in a limo.
Only major gripe I had with this car was when I went to replace the timing belt. The tensioner retraction bolt had jammed and the bolt head rounded off by either previous owner or a ham-fisted mechanic. Couldn't slacken off the tensioner or remove the bolt as it's so long and there isn't enough room between engine and inner wing. Ended up removing engine and box which enabled all the seals and hard to access bits to be serviced or replaced. It's an 'easier' job on XM's than on the smaller Xantia. Still took day and a half though.

Yes - it's me. I've still got to do part two of fitting non standard stereo (Kenwood) and getting it to work with the steering wheel controls. Have got the adaptor kits but just need time to film it.

I think we had a particularly hot summer in 2005 and where I used to park up the car at work, the sun was on it all day. Bit like sitting in an oven. I was looking into fitting a fan to the seat similar to what Mercedes do but I ended up selling it before I could work out the bits needed. My missus still likes to remind me that we should never have sold it. :(
I was bidding on a J reg V6 on Ebay few months ago but the listing was pulled suddenly. After watching 'Ronin' I quite fancy a 24 valve V6. Not many V6's about anymore.

Where the photo was taken, today it's now part of the Cambridge to St.Ives Guided Busway. Big concrete tracks now sit where the car was parked in the photo.
