Granted they stick the turbo on the front which helps when they fail and means the engine bay as a whole warms up a little bit quicker and the hottest part of the engine gets the most exposure to cool airflow but things like dmf, dpf/fap... Just extra weight that isn't needed really.

Brothers one was had from 6months old to 4years and then swapped for Kia! The dmf started to let go and the odd lumpy running was just enough for him.

The 16v is OK, but it needs care, and carefull care too.. Mainly the injector clamp bolts are the first thing to keep a check on. They can and DO come loose, one of the contribors to turbo issues...

NOT all 16v 1.6s have got DPFs thank god! They were all available with or without DPFs..

Provisionally, their 56 mph fuel consumption figures are 97.4mph... Thats a 120bhp, and JUST 82 co2g which equates to FREEE road tax under the latest goverment laws for tax!! Addmitely there is a FAP to but that wouldnt affect me, I know how to treat them and live in the ideal place for them to survive

Now that DOES appeal to me!!

(any car with co2 under 100 gram is free road tax! WHO Needs a Hybryd now eh!)

I'm more intrigued by the Citroen C4 Cactus. The basic model is designed to be extremely light. Well under a ton infact. With the 1.6 HDI, it could nudge or exceed 100mpg. ;)

Am I right in thinking the issue with the 1.6 16V HDI is clogging oil feed filters to the turbo?

Peugeots provisional figures for the 308 were 108mpg. They have removed the provisional now the car has launched and given it 97 mpg. . Not sure if the cactus will exceed it. Might match it.

Really, but it's not by much! It's still fantastic, I am sure the citroen will match it. The basic one is the model to watch I think when it comes to the mpg. The three cylinder might be interesting too. I really am liking the 308 and the cactus I can't wait for!

That's the one Russ, the extended service intervals cause the oil to be utter tripe by the time it gets to be changed.

5-7k is the most any diesel should do, if not every year at worst as soot in the oil is the engines killer.

The hdi 8v 2.0 in the Xanthi and early c5 has NO issues with 12,500 miles services. That's all mine has had.

its not the oil that is the dv6 enemy it's the injector posts and securing nuts that hold the injectors. They get loose and soot and carbon gets into the oil ways etc and blocks the oil pickup and the turbo feed gauze. The rest is toast!

Yes i now believe it is.. ford/Volvo recommend the nuts ARE checked for tightness at service.. Citroën do not.

have a look on ebay at how many 1.6 Citroëns are for spares / repair compared to Volvo s and Ford in relation to qty sold..

Yeah I have to admit, I have noticed more Citroens with duff 1.6's. Peugeot similarly effected through ignoring Ford and Volvo advice?
