Just to bring things back on topic here is a link for the earlier thread mentioned by Russ on the 23rd March 1989 launch:

Apparently there were 1,000 XM paraded on the day all in Meteor Grey so I think there is a good chance mine was there!!

You now can choose one XM every other day. But the 2 liters are way too slow compared to the V6's I guess. Which V6 is the best to drive Matthew?

I agree Matthew, it could have been there. A 1000 cars in the same colour is quite a lot at launch. Maybe that's how the Priest got one, press car demo discount!

Matthews 2.0 are turbos, so should pack enough punch!

I can only dream of having an XM for everyday of the week.

In response to Jaap I think I would agree with Paul, although I much prefer looking at a S1 dash!

Interestingly the VIN no. also finishes with 0999 Russ!

I have just heard from the Seller that his Father has now found the service book with history for the first few years, plus other paperwork that apparently states the car was No. 912 car from the beginning of production!! It now seems almost certain that the XM did participate in the 23rd May 1989 launch as earlier suggested! Regards, Matthew T.

A great find Matthew. I should have ignored the jacking points issue.

Timing isn't ideal, though.

Thanks chaps and I have just done a few other jobs on the car including some mainly cosmetic stuff in the engine bay and straightening out the front jacking points and cills and adjacent floor. If it is any compensation Will the front jacking points and adjacent bodywork are in quite a state, including the usual lower wing rot that has also affected the adjacent sills. The front wheel lower arches inboard from the jacking points seem solid unusually, although the right=hand underbody outer rib near the centre has crumbled away slightly. On a more positive note the exhaust system now appears to be okay apart from the odd patch and the rear silencer has a big hole. I also found the paint code that bizarrely is right underneath the air filter housing and only visible after removal! With regards, Matthew T.
