I would be tempted to go for a FTU and diamond cut finish, which should cost the same as a single paint coat finish and dress the SMB wheel to be almost the same as an Italia one. Alternatively go for two colour wheels for longevity.

Diamond cut does reflec the light nicely.

I was very confident all SE wheels were FTU, having thrashed a V6 SEI when they were first new in the UK. It sounded glorious at full chat.

I think the exhaust system on the car was mostly original and needless to say full of holes, although after some unsatisfactory repairs I made do for a while, with a slightly better example then acquired from Paul. The replacement front silencer has now started to blow quite badly and refuses to be patched, so I decided to 'bite the bullet' and source new parts. Anyway, after a bit of research on ebay I found the full system can still be obtained with the main (and possibly only) source being Clarius in the UK. After speaking with Clarius I was then advised to contact Eurocar Parts, who promptly ordered in the components required that I collected today. The quality looks good and the price for the complete system less the cat and rear silencer including two additional brackets and a seal was very reasonably under £200. I hope to install this weekend and it should make a big difference to the driving experience! Regards, Matthew T.

Is it sad that I was looking at a picture of an exhaust pipe & thinking "wow that looks great!"

They do have a certain sculptural appeal and even the guy at Eurocar parts was impressed! I think is is also the shiny new metal that does it! Regards, Matthew T.

A company called Venporte appears to make these exhausts and has a system number.

That is helpful information Will and it would be necessary to establish availability and who is actually sells the parts. I found that Klarius is not currently supplying the 24v exhaust that I purchased previously from RSJ Auto Factors for less than £300, although bizzarely now listed at nearly £2,000! The 2 exhaust systems pictured above are not the same (count the pipes going in and out). Which one is correct? the top one looks rather like a ES9 system.

Original V6 Exhaust as described in the XM workshop manual.
XMexhV6002.jpg
Note that ex factory only the cat was separate, the exhaust was one piece including back box.
The V6 was not the only XM with a link pipe by-passing the cross box.
The original 2.1 TD exhaust had a small diameter by-pass tube fitted.
