Hi,
How exactly do you dismantle the S2 mirror casing. I need to take off the ring which surrounds the drivers side mirror pane but i can't seem to find any clues on how to do it. All I did so far is removed the mirror pane. Any clues?
Thanks,
Eryk

Hi Eryk
With the glass removed you will see the round case of the mirror drive motors.
Three very small torx screws hold this round case to the mirror arm.
Outside this case on the metal mirror arm are 3 larger Torx screws.
These larger screws hold the back of the mirror shell to the frame.
The front and back mirror shells clip together.
The clips are plastic and are part of the moulding of each half of the shell.
I will find a loose shell set and post again how to separate the halves.
Start at the outer edge and pull the front frame out of the back shell.
It will start to unclip then work along top and bottom edges.
Then pull gently out of pivot point.
Front frame cannot be freed from inner edge first.

Hi John,
Do you think it's possible to remove the front shell (the small one) without removing any of the inner mechanisms first?

Hi Eryk
I think so but I will do a check and post again.
Update:
Just tried on a complete mirror on a car, glass removed but nothing else so the same as yours.
Tried all sorts of levering but could not get apart.
Its a good mirror so did not want to try too hard and damage it.
Went back to the one that was apart.
The front face has 5 alignment projections by the hinge.
As I stated in the previous post these unclip last without effort once the rest of the front face is free.
The main clips on the front face are pairs of triangle shaped indents to the top, bottom and outer edge.
The back shell has matching triangle shaped projections.
These projections are around 1mm high/deep.
As the two halves of the shell are pushed together it rides up the taper then latches together.
There are 3 pairs of latches across the top and another 3 pairs down the outer edge.
It was a good time ago I took this one to bits but the damage marks show me how I did it.
I levered the two shells apart with quite a wide flat bladed screw driver in the join from the bottom outer corner.
This point has the widest spacing between the latches and is less likely to show damage.
Hope this helps.

Thank You John for all the detailed information You provided.
These however show me that this is going to be a tough one.
