Not much done today, it was dry for the first half of the day, so I swapped the Fuel Pump over as there was a very heavy Fuel Leak on it. Lucky the replacment is leak free. Just need to see how it beds in, its been stood a while.

Then started putting the engine bay back together, battery box in etc. But thats all for today.

VERY interesting discovery today while messing about getting no where, it rained a few times, and to my suprise I found the following!
20140117_135352.jpg
YES that IS rain water comming into the car and thats what I think is dripping off the roof lining on the passenger side by the B pillar!

So, the glass does leak then!

On another note, does anyone know how to fix the DAMM heater direction Flaps, without removing them from the car!! This one IS trying me.

Haha..this is what was happening to mine too. It is the frame to glass seal and mine had given up in all the corners. By the looks of it, if you repair it, you might find some nice corrosion going by the colour of that water. At last years CXM with all that rain on the Saturday, I found out the reason why I had water pouring in... The metal frame had a blinking hole in it. Final straw....
It is easy to do, but be thorough with the prep and gunk. I would say it is worth the fuss, as other replacement second hand ones will go at some point too.

Had a further Mess About with this today. Needed to get the Foot Direction Flaps working freely as they are so stiff the drive wheel just skips also does the roatry dail also skip behind the panel.

The cog on the left is the sticky one, this one controls the flaps for feet.

So after much spraying behind the toothed cog and getting no where, I dragged another heater box out of the shed from the J reg car.. That one works nicely..

So, haveing a good look at the spare one.. I then suddenly noticed:

Remove the TOP two cross head screws..
20140120_134152.jpg
Remove the centre bracket, ALSO the screw on the left and one on the right... theres also two more in the middle sides..
20140120_134309.jpg
And hey presto! the Feet Flaps are revealed and access is gainable!
20140120_135106.jpg
However after lots of messing I still couldn't free it up nicely.

Looking at the other heater again (forgot to get pics) I then discovered that the front heater section with the Flaps and heater matrix WILL come away from the rear section which in SED cars would house the Air Con evaporator and blower motor.. That then stays in the car and the front section comes away.

Theres TWO clips on each side and one screw inside the moddle vent. Disconnect the heater matric pipes and remove three 10mm bolts.

HOWEVER, theres a snag! The pedal box house joining section that runs along the front of the heater box is in the way for it to til forward. So, I had one choice.. and I decided to cut one side of the frame, lifted it up and this alowed the heater to til forward, and then slide out sideways..

Bottom right is the cut, But you may notice I did it between two holes, this alowing me to bolt a piece of metal back holding the frame together after all installed.

In the Picture above, the "grilled" part would normally be where the Air Con evaporator would be.

I shall get pics of heater seperation ASAP. Busy rest of the week.

Did a bit more this afternoon after getting rained off from other work, so took the heater half off to mums and messed about in the warmth..

FIRSTLY, seperating the front section from the rear, disconnect the heater matrix pipes, CUT one side of the pedal box metal frame that runs along the front of the heater, and release these clips..

20140121_093531.jpg

Undo this screw inside the upper vent...

After lifting the metal frame along the front of the box and undooing two 10mm nuts at the back and 4 inside the frame - when the car is apart it becomes apparent.. you can then do this..
20140121_093550.jpg
Alowing the two halfs apart as above!! This means the heater can be played with WITHOUT needing to go in the engine bay and find the bulk head bolts. It also entails the Air Con where fitted and Heater Core are in seperate compartments!

Further messing with the Feet Flap today refused to loosen up, so in the warmth I went a step further.

Undo the snap clips all around the CENTRE join right round the box..

and then you can seperate the two HALFS!! and have this..
20140121_155336.jpg
20140121_155342.jpg
The white is Polish that I used to try and free them up.. which initially work.
20140121_162024.jpg
So, after a but more messing, I did find the cause of the stiffness...

[

The plastic interferance in the middle was the issue. So I got some fine sand paper, and rubbed the spigot down on the flap end.. and cleaned it up.
20140121_155353.jpg
So there we have the insides of the heater box completely!!

carefull flap alignment and re assembly making sure they are all in the right place, put it all back together and now found that the flaps FULLY roate Better then before. Not sure If the directions are all setup correctly till I get some are blowing through it again in the car.

While it was out, YES thats also a NEW Heater Matrix! Why not eh??

Admire your patience with this: these things shouldn't fail, ever. Should they...But having said that, there's not much simplicity to be found.

Of course, hence this. BUT theres a fair few that do! My land lords SED is sticky!

and I think Dieselman has a sticky heater too, the K reg SD Charles M bought was starting to stick, but I got the dash out of that and caught it and free'd it up.. I think..
