The NEW Project: L reg XM 2.1 D Auto FOR MYSELF!!

Post by citroenxm » Fri Nov 08, 2013 9:00 pm

As the K47BAN project comes to a close and is virtually ready for collection..

I had a quiet day today and decided Id like to get the next project out into daylight and have a good look over at what choices I have.

The car had been parked up in the garage in 2008 and left. It had NOT run since! So I gathered some fuel together in a can and put the can under the bonnet in the air filter place. This was because the car had apparently ran out of fuel upon being parked up.

Anyway inittially the engine turned slowly... then sounded like there was no compression. This was down to lazy pistons.. as the fuel got through and attempted fireing a few times they started to wake up. I had to resort to a jump start in the end, this spun the engine over fast enough to encourage a startup albeit with some smoke...

So, out she came into daylight after 5 years sitting.

However, after it sat for a moment, I noticed pool of fluid at the rear.. appears a rear pipe no doubt on top of the subframe has popped.

So, the big question, further investigation of the under side on the important areas.

Rear subframe mounts...

Looks good there...

And Cill areas, front and rear:

Ooo I only took one.. well, rear cill areas, both good, and front areas also good, but front jacking points are bent in, and will need attention.

Outriggers at the front both good and strong.

Theres what looks like a home made under tray fitted. I shall remove that next time. but today didn;t get that far.

Currently, inside the car, is a bit upsidedown, and a mess. The dash has all been pulled apart, but I did notice a FULLY working Glove box Catch, and the glove box on the back seat appeard to have a working strut! :D :D

So, initially, it looks like I have a good strong body to work on. She HAS got ABS (ABS Light on) - Air Con oil sump but air con is not fitted at all yet. The car is currently a base model, but I shall be upgrading to higher spec, including changing the "Out Lined" car warning display on the left to Dot Matrix warning.. YES, it has S2 door mirrors fitted, they will come off for S1 proper mirrors.

But, for the moment, all looking good. Bosch Fuel and Auto box. Car has 244k on it, but if I remember correctly the car just had a head rebuild and autobox rebuild at around 195k or so. We still have the full written documentation and history etc. Just needs digging out.[

Im not overly over joyed with the auto but i might try and enjoy that... else consider converting to manual as i want to swap the heater for an air con heater box and thats dash and pedal box out job... so .. we shall see..

Just kidding :) Good spare tyres can come in handy..Have you ever converted to manual? I never thought I'd ever like an automatic. I kind of do now, didn't have much of a choice of course.
Black one looks good (from a distance :) )

It seems you are now heading for.... four brake overhauls, at least 4 new hydraulic pipes above subframe, maybe some more...
new dashboard?
new wiring loom and glove box?
Swap the interior?
new abs sensors :( (hope you have a few spares, I don't..)
new exhaust system?
All fluids and filters and spheres changed
All belts incl. timing belt change
water pump and coolant change
tyre and wheel change and of course a full body wax session after all the welding here and there :)
exhaust change?
Full valet and maybe a respray :)

Great show! you can do it!

The donar sed next to it out of shots has everything.. no need for brakes new disks and pads had recently been fitted and as its been in dry theres little to no rust..

Pipe work pah.. no problem loads of pipes and a flare kit here...

Exhaust currently looks fine to me..

Actually the rear leak looks like a rear electro valve has corroded.. but ive not looked closely yet. (YES it has hydra tive two) the rp number is 6068 ...(there abouts on last two digits) defo a 60 car anyway.

All the dash is there just spread all over the car...

Black car is not. If it was black id DEAFENATLY would not be selling and wouldnt be dooing this. Its the grey one.. the other blog the sd manual..

Not too bad then! Strut tops still OK? Do you have a pit - how do you work underneath cars? You really need a proper ramp, don't you? I'd love to have one, especially now..

Looking a solid base Paul and has to feel good you're doing it for your own pleasing this time.

How many hrs do you think it'd take you to do a manual to auto box swap on a td21 -bar the pedals swap-? One day job? Would the box come out upwards, or from the wheel arch?
