Good Good!

Im glad to hear that, I did take your dash all out and it looks like I just caught yours before she got any worse. Constant use should keep her working.. Bear in mind this 2.1 D auto had been hidden in a garage for 7 years untouched!

The heater box above had come out of a J reg 2.1 D that also sat around for 3 years so little less time to sieze up.

Mine is sticky, so I will get at it soon.

I thought the metal frame just bolts on through the firewall with a few captive bolts with nuts on. That frame gets fitted with the dashboard already fitted to it.

It does, but getting to them is an issue..

To get at the drivers side one, wiper mechanisem out, and I think theres lower bolts BEHIND the engine.

I decided to SOD it, its getting to me now!

Ive not BLOODY side lights now, front or tail!! Main and Dip work, also no light on buzzer, and no side light warning GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR....

The last moan was no front or rear side lights, but main and dip were fine..

The discovery to why happened today just before I almost got soaked!

The "Old" SED H reg car had fitted the short lived "Dim Dip" headlight setup, of course by 1994 this was deleted from the cars! This then meant a revised harness across the very front of the engine bay that runs across the Cooling Fan housing to the front headlights, and incorporates the Dim Dip Relay, so YES this harness ALSO needs swapping from the H reg to the L reg car. However, this isnt a too bad a thing because the Cooling Fans Relay herness on the L reg car was shot completely on the relay terminals, this resulted in my almost setting the car on fire from a high current gain!

So, thats next on the plan WHEN I finally get round to it. and is the only model and year specific harness left to swap!!

God this is fun, but hey, Im bloody learning a fair bit from it. The main lesson is NEVER DO IT AGAIN!

I learned a lot from a gander at the wiring harnesses looking like an explosion in a spaghetti factory today - I wouldn't even know where to start! I reckon it will be a nice car when sorted though Paul.

I hope so Charles, but I wont be completely happy, wrong colour, and it WILL bug me eventually.

Got the 24v running (re wires the connections to the pump/level sender) and as above looked at the side light problem then it rained, and rained it did!

Well done on the 24v, and I drove through more wind and rain than I ever thought possible. The wind gusting down from Snowdonia on to the A55 was unbelievable - huge eddies of wind that made the XM very skittish, so much so I even slowed down!

Well TWO steps forward with this today in an hour and a half.

Firstly, got the Oil pressure Light working again, the Pressure Switch on the engine was duff, so fitted antoher, and hey presto.. then with the engine running I was then presented with another new message Id not seen on my others useually because of broken wires else where.

Pressed the brake... and firstly..

and then the second phase..

Calling for some maintenace.. LOL.

Not even looked at the brakes yet, so no idea if its lieing or telling the truth yet!

Im not getting an ABS out of Use message yet even though the light is on. I beleve its a wire astray somewhere, judging by the wiring diagrams.. The message come directly from the Lamp illumimated in the speedo cluster, so ill have to check that next time..

Yeah... my brake pad wires have long since snapped, so won't be seeing that message!
"Brake maintenance", how helpful of it to let you know it needs some!
