This car has been crossing my mind again lately.
It's been nominated for being a hdi cantidate. By this I mean a full outright hdi.. Not a hdi block with td head.
Although nothing has happened over the last two years yet again concentrating has been on getting the farm emptied.
Anyway I've been in between trying to develop the best route to go down. My inital thoughts was to keep it auto. So I was going to install the engine with AL4 autobox. However with this configuration I'd need the c5 engine ecu. This would mean needing the matched bsi and comms 2000 unit.
So. My next thought was to fit a 4hp18 autobox. Being completely mechical no link to engine ecu is Needed. First thought was gear ratios but using my current 2.1td auto against a friends 2.0 hdi c5 auto I found that ratios are virtually identical. So this has pushed me more into this idea.
Useing the 4hp18 box therefore. Means I can use a xantia engine harness. Which makes things a bit simpler. I also have still a late xantia ecu which has got cruise control built into it. This then means we can wire up cruise control.. And also get the xm original trip computer also wired in. I found my printout of all pin connections needed for the cruise and trip computer. However it is still over on French car forum too somewhere.
Torque and bhp figures between 2.1td and 2.0 hdi are just about the same so I'd expect the 4hp18 would cope perfectly well with this setup.
