Our 406 V6 Coupe

Post by David Hallworth » Thu Feb 06, 2014 9:39 pm

Our 406 Coupe went into the bodyshop on Monday last week to have a few stone chips sorted before it went in for detailing.

In the end when we were looking at it with the bodyshop owner we decided that there was actually more that needed doing then we had originally noticed, there was a little bubble on the C pillar and the paint on the boot lid and roof was starting to blister ever so slightly.

We ended up leaving the bodyshop having given him the go ahead to give the car a full respray and the results are amazing. We've had it since it was just over 6 months old having been a Peugeot UK management car (10 year on 14th Feb actually) and have no intentions of getting rid of it as it's worth nothing these days we thought we might as well get it back to showroom condition. The wheels were refurbished last month as well.

It's one of the last ones made, red seems to be quite a rare colour and being the V6 manual it's quite a special car :)

The guy hasn't put the 406 badge on quite right, it's not quite straight. It's an awkward one though as the number don't actually sit straight. I've ordered a new set as they come with the template to fit them with and they are only 8 quid.

That's lovely David, really pristine.

Well done for investing the time, effort, and of course money, to keep what's becoming a rare care on the road. A lot of people baulk at servicing a 10 year old car, let alone doing a full respray.

That should keep it looking great for years to come :)

My son loves those but unfortunately they only make them with the 2.2 diesel which is rubbish on fuel (he is not in the V6 league) I have an estate with the 2.0. Hdi and it will easily exceed 60 mpg,. 40 mpg or less is about the average for the 2.2.

Well as far as I'm concerned the car is now finished...

The number plates have both been changed for Peugeot dealer plates so they've still got the dealer stamp on them and I've replaced the badges on the boot as the spacing on them wasn't quite right after the respray.

Does anyone know what a good leather dye is? There's a slight scuff on the bolster of this cars drivers seat. That's now the only mark on it that stops it being in concours condition.

Gliptone are normally spot on with their leather dyes. I've just restored the leather on my Mercedes 190 with 145k on the clock and it looks close to new.

Thanks Charles. I'll have a look at them :)

Do you recommend doing the whole seat or can you get away with just doing the bad bit?

David.
