Toms black onyx

Post by tom7164 » Fri Feb 07, 2014 12:58 pm

Good afternoon All

It has made it to my drive! So far I have only managed to run it up and down the road as it has no tax and test. It had been standing for a year so everything's a bit stiff. The previous owner was only the second owner and acquired it in 96. He said it had a strut replace and new spheres all round just before it got laid up, but I have no paper work to back this up.

It got taken off of the road because the abs light was coming on every time he tried to get it MOTed it was on when i looked at it and now I got it its off, I will have to clean the electrical plugs and check all the sensors to see if i can stop it coming off.

The body work seems to be in fairly good condition for its age. The boot is full of spare parts headlights a suspension strut and loads of switches along with some other bits and bobs.

Its got 130k on it and i have no history for it what so ever so once its moted a full service and new cam belt are in order. The faults I have found so far are sunroof wont shut, passenger window does not work from drivers switch, handle for glove box it broken and thats it so far underneath looks fairly good and overall I am quite happy with it.

Thanks Tom

Welcome Tom. This looks like a great project to get back on the road. Well done for saving it.

The ABS issue is very common. Mine does it from time to time. It goes through periods of being off for months and then it will come back on for weeks. Damp around the plugs and dirt on the sensor seems to be the main issue. Also check the fuses in the engine bay are well seated. I found mine loose and ever since pushing them back, it's been much better. My last MOT the ABS behaved and then driving out of the test centre the light came on. A very close call!!!

Best of luck with the resto. It'll be worth it!

It looks good.

Riding a bit high at the front and the rear wing has been painted, but overall, very tidy.

In the Bin for them... Got "Proper Real" alloys to go on! They WERE on mine, but I removed them and fitted steels and Mk.2 Trims to it, unfortunally, I left the Wood, Electric arm rest AND full leather in her...

I like the trims, but being plastic they are not ageing well on my car, quite shabby round the edges.

Nothing a bit of sanding and painting won't fix.
