Howdy folks! It was indeed me, and the shoot was carried out today with Dieselman's lovely, early SD. Good to meet you! As a direct result of this feature, I'm hoping to get an XM of my own before too long...

It's for the April 16th issue of Practical Classics, but don't shout it from the rooftops just yet.

Id like to say Id have an XM in stock for you, but Alas, I dont think I will. Im trying to sort a 2.1 D auto out for myself, plus there another project or two which need a bit of work.

Two members on here have had 2.1 TD Manuals from me..

Still hoping a deal can be done on that one on the FB group. Must admit, I wasn't that keen on the manual I drove today, for exactly the same reasons I've gone off manual BXs. The Daihatsu I'm currently driving proves exactly what's wrong with the Citroen gearchange. A 2.1d auto would be very interesting. I suspect the 2-litre NA auto will be rather more gentle of pace.

We havent spoken on the Phone or Text before Ian have we? I know I spoke to someone who wanted or liked BX, but wanted a XM..

I could be presueded to sell the TD auto. BUT it will be some time off..

It depends how you want to drive an XM, do you want to race? Or just plod along slowly.

That grey one with the manual leather be a nice starter car!!

Welcome aboard Ian. :) Personally I think the combo of 2.1 TD and the auto box makes for the perfect XM experience.

But yours has the later HP20 adaptive, electronic gearbox. earlier cars with the hydraulic HP18 tend to be noisy and slow due to holding low gears to fixed speeds.

My penchant is definitely for manual gearboxes on these, though I do agree with Ian, the gear change isn't silky smooth.

Will I believe auto adaptive never was fitted to the derv in the xm. It remained with the hp18 to the end.

It could be the lucas fuel system making the difference.

only the v6 24v esj engine got the auto adaptive box.

Yup, mine has the 4 HP 18 'box. I certainly wouldn't categorise it as noisy. I'm never in a rush and just let the car do all the work. The shift from second to third could be lower, but 'they all do that sir'.
