Thanks folks, Dieselman, I certainly had a look at those O rings when the injectiors were off but they -looked- ok ... hard to be sure though. I have a box of metric O rings but none that are the right size for the injectors. Thing is I tested the whole manifold months ago for vacuum leaks (just used the standard douse with WD40 method) and no change to the wonky idle was observed.

Hi Dean, this is what's written on the engine ECU - not sure how specific it is but Matthew is right - it's a non-keypad model.

Isn't it possible to lift the chip out of the ECU board and swap it without any code input?

By the way, if you'd like I could fit LEDs to your switches if you send them to me

That's great Russ - either way it's inspired!

Thank you for the offer Graham, inspired by all this talk of LEDs I have already ordered my batch and a few 580ohm resistors to while away the few remaining dark evenings ;)

I believe the code part of the ECU is separate to the main chip from Johns research on the subject, i was also made aware by john that the main chip itself is specific to each model of ecu, I do have a brand new tct tuning chip unused that I could also send as I believe it to be the only chip compatible with your model of ECU.

I will post the ECU and chip over lunch break tomorrow.

One of these days I'll get down to do my modification and will upload a few pictures. I'll use SMD parts that makes fitting in tight spaces easier although they require more precise soldering.

Right o Dean, just an update on the running: yesterday the XM had a day off so this morning's start up was a proper cold start. It started instantly as ever but as usual it was cutting out at all the sets of lighs after the first mile as usual. I'd say it was even worse today for it and I'm thinking that a longer gap between start ups affects it more. After 2-3 miles it was better and once it was running for a good 20-30 mins it was totally fine with normal throttle response. It was a good long trip today 160miles and it performed perfectly (even went a bit fast ...) but I noticed the engine check light came on and stayed on for a while then went off on its own. Not read the fault codes if there are any but what would that indicate? It didn't stay lit.

If it doesnt stay lit its not a proper fault, more a glitch and a lot of the time this will not generate a fault code. Could be a wiring fault, see if you can wiggle the main engine harness connector under the front of the LHM tank at idle and prevoke a resction from it, if its the square brown and black connectors they are known for trouble, cutting out and rough running on warm up was a symptom on our old gold si, mine has had the bridge done after giving trouble some time in its early life.

Why not just have the injectors serviced by a fuel injection specialist?
