Here's a quick pick of my 1992 Turbo SD:
Since this pic I've had a go at painting the bonnet - the paint wasn't a brilliant match so I'll be having another go at it in the near future, but it does look slightly better than in the pic. I've also given it a bit more of a wash and I'm in the middle of t-cutting and polishing the rest of the paintwork, and cleaning up the plastic trim where possible.
I've collected a solid boot liner for it, plus a load of other spares, including an almost complete set of lights (so if you want to hang onto your sidelights Mark you can do, although I'd still buy them if you want to get shot). I also have a replacement base for the driver's seat promised as it's ripped along one of the seams.
It drives really nicely, although there are a few issues to sort on it:
It seems to run hot, not an issue on A roads, but on the Motorway yesterday when climbing the temperature did too, to the point that I turned the heater on before it climbed into the red. The coolant looks a bit manky, so the plan here is to drain and flush the cooling system, check the thermostat, and also check the cooling fans operation. If I can find a suitable way to do it (ideally a standard looking switch repurposed for the job) I may fit a fan over ride switch just for piece of mind.
Occasionally the ABS decides it's not working. This seems to be voltage related, as it's most likely to do this first thing in the morning, and if I pull over after 10 minutes and restart the car, it all works OK. If I'm stopped in traffic it also occasionally drops out if I operate something with a high current draw, such as an electric window.
Occasionally it doesn't want to operate the starter on the key - this is a wiring issue which I'll get around to.
The boost gauge doesn't work - I'll check the connection to the sensor, when I've worked out where it is.
The rear washer doesn't work
Near side front fog light lens is broken - Sod's law dictated that of the 3 fog / turn signal assemblies picked up yesterday, the only one that actually fits the car is for the other side!
The passenger mirror only moves when it wants too - it'll be ok once I get it adjusted properly!
The driver's side rear window doesn't work - to be investigated, but low on the priority list.
There are other occasional electrical outbursts that add to the exitement - the rev counter went mad for a few seconds coming off the M5 yesterday, and the dot matrix panel decided to tell me none of the rear lights were working while I was reversing into a space at the local supermarket last week, but both problems then sorted themselves out.
I'm also after a set of wheel trims - I believe the ones in the pic are Mk2 ones, but I prefer the look of the flat disk ones that I believe it should be fitted with. The other problem is that the trims on the other side are Halfrauds specials, but at least the trims on each side match each other!
Any advice or offers of parts greatfully recieved, and I'll keep you all up to date with progress.
