im increadbly guilty of letting my V6 SEi sit for far too long with the hope of a resto.. which simply wont happen firstly because she sat out in a dampish area and not under cover and now because time is increadably limited... the sitting out in grass damp resulted in cills gone and inner cill walls that meet the floor etc also rotting away.. ill hate myself for it but its done now nothing I can do about it. She Is a later 1993 K reg. So improved spec with cruise control added at factory and all colour coded trim.

my attention needs to focus on my 24V manual S1 with what time ill have.

Thank goodness it was only a seal, but as I said to you at the rally Matthew, if they did replace ithe seal when it was rebuilt, it didn't last long, or it wasn't replaced at all, which is a bit of an oversight.
The governor seals were replaced before the rebuild in 2010 and at around 10K miles ago Russ when earlier problems arose. Nevertheless I agree the lifespan seems fairly short. It appears the failure is not uncommon but luckily quite an easy fix and it might be that wear inside the governor chamber is a factor. Regards, Matthew T.

I have now put over 1,000 miles on the car after replacing the governor seal and the changes both ways now seem to be getting smoother all the time! It might be tempting fate, but hopefully after many trials and tribulations I now have this car sorted for the foreseable future. Regards, Matthew T.

That's good news. Keeps those fingers firmly crossed! Maybe it just needed a good bedding in after the rebuild.
It does look good though.

If the governor seals have been leaking the shift valves wont have been receiving full hydraulic pressure. It's possible they have been sticking as a result and they are freeing off as the valves are moving better.

Thanks chaps and I think tbh I think any XM looks good in platinum Russ! That is an interesting suggestion about possible sticking valves effecting the gear shifts Will and they certainly must be loosened up by now! With regards, Matthew T.

Just a quick update on a couple of recent cosmetic improvements that were to swap the front seat bases and replace the bonnet lining. I have done the seat change on all of my cars now I think and it makes the world of difference and almost like a new seat. The base takes most of the wear and especially along the outer edge, which obviously then becomes an inner. As Rob pointed out at the Chevrons my bonnet lining was in quite a state with facing material missing and generally grubby and tired. I had a very tidy liner on a spare bonnet and I also took the opportunity to clean and modify the light that has been very successful. Regards, Matthew T.

Do you mean you swap the passenger seat base with the drivers base? Good idea if that's the case.
I also swapped my bonnet lining recently. The original had some foil, possibly as a heat reflector, glued on to it. That had peeled off and was half hanging down.
It's a shame as the rest of the lining is in brilliant shape, but it looked dreadful with brown dried glue all over it.

But Mr Thomas... What about that rear door? Bit rusty along the bottom seal.... Sorry I shouldn't be pointing that out.
