In response to Paul I am sorry but I cannot remember what the mod was on the gearbox hydraulic valve, but it was either replacement or boring out to a large size. Regards, Matthew T.

Car looking fabulous Matthew, sorry to hear that the gearbox turned into more of a saga than anticipated. I keep looking out for a similar example but it's not easy to find one to this spec, impossible in the UK to be honest. If only I had been a little more persuasive when it was in pieces in your garage!

Many thanks for your kind remarks Andy, although it may be just as well that you did not buy the car, given the subsequent problems!! I do hope you manage to find something elsewhere and personally I would look abroad! With regards, Matthew T.

I am pleased to report the car served me well during a 830 mile long trip last week between Norfolk and North Yorkshire, returning home via the Chevron rally. Just out of curiosity I checked the distance travelled and found it equated to a journey between the extreme north of Scotland and Penzance! The success was all very reassuring given that I had rebuilt another spare engine after the third removal to repair a cracked crankshaft-torque convertor flex plate. I also have not had time to mention another issue with the auto gearbox appeared just a week ago with incorrect changes and eventually loss of reverse, which all pointed to damaged governor seals, despite fairly recent replacement. Anyway I managed to source a helpful u-tube tutorial and replacement parts and opted to investigate the problem that was indeed a broken outer rubber ring. I attach photos of the engine before rebuilding and the more recent gearbox repair for your interest. Regards, Matthew T.

Thank goodness it was only a seal, but as I said to you at the rally Matthew, if they did replace ithe seal when it was rebuilt, it didn't last long, or it wasn't replaced at all, which is a bit of an oversight.

Anyway, 830 miles is a good test drive....May it now settle down and behave itself!
