As luck would have it, I've just done a tutorial on this today.

Had a quick investigation into the water ingress today. The seal for the roof rack mounting holes is still firmly sealed against the roof, so can't be getting in there, but the secondary drain channel, which is a strip of U shaped plastic has become crushed over time, so tried to reshape it. I also adjusted the striker so the door sits tighter against the body. Time will tell.

Where is the water appearing inside the car? On mine, I can slide back the roof and clearly see where water has come between glass and seal. My second attempt at bodgery - lots of sealant - doesn't seem to have been entirely successful so I've slapped some more on!

Front and rear passenger footwells, although the majority of water is in the front. Sunroof doesn't show any signs of failure and the headlining is dry. The carpet immediately underneath the plastic trim of the door sill is also wet, which leads me to suspect the plastic U shaped channel isn't doing it's job of draining water to the bottom of the A pillar. Adjustment of the striker plate has resulted in the door closing tighter against the body and door seal. Heavy rain forecast for the next few days, let's see if it's worked.

Is your Drain away channel ALL clear under the scuttle trim????

If its blocked up, water level builds and it then floods in past the Air intake right next to it..

Theres a water drain off tray that covers the blower intake for upper catchment, but not for a "Lake" next to it..

Look in past the cut out for the headlight washer filler bottom of the windscreen with bonnet open!

Cheers for that. I take it the scuttle panel needs to be removed to have a look? End caps removed and then what? I've never removed the scuttle panel.

Should be easy Mark, screws in each end of the scuttle once caps removed. Two each side ....at least on the mk1. Then open bonnet, should be a central screw. Then lift out .. Backwards...Watch for the 4 prongs if it has it. It's a fiddle but carefully does it.

Cheers Russ. I'll have a go. What's the guess the scuttle end caps will break. :-(

Hair drier them for a long time to ensure they are warm to the core first, prising old plastic in the cold will only end in tears.

In the absence of a hair dryer, I might have to wait until June. :-)
