Check the towing socket hasn't got a cutout switch. They do stick and cause exactly this problem.

Good suggestion. I've had one of these switches stick too, cutting out the car's rear fogs.

Where do I find said 'cut out' switch?

It's built into the towing socket, Rob. IIRC, a small plunger/lever that actuates when you insert the trailer plug.
If it's got one, open the socket up, and clean the contacts. Often just full of mud/dust.

Problem sorted. It was indeed the tow bar electrics. I had fitted a new socket to replace the old shattered plastic one. Not sure what I did wrong or whether I bought the wrong socket. Anyway after removing a lot of trim in the rear of the car I traced all the wiring and reinserted the original multi-plug connector with its bridging loop. Fog lights now fully functional :)

Many thanks for all the support.

Just a quick update. Sailed through the MoT with no issues :)

A slight wear in the N/S steering joint so will need changing at some point. Also N/S headlight won't adjust 'up' anymore. I will need to pull this out and see why it is stuck so low.

The sunroof has now decided not to work. I suspect I may have done something when I was sorting the fog lights. :(

On the upside I have replaced the FDV at long last.

The downside is that the leak around the front height corrector seems to have got worse :( I am a now less certain that this is the height corrector but there is now too much LHM in the area to see where it is coming from. A major degrease beckons.

Geeky question? At what point did the steel wheels shift from silver to black? Just realised that the original spare on mine is silver!

Hi Rob,

Glad about all the good news!

I've got a weepy height corrector, too (my own fault, but that's another story).
Check that the drain-back (leak off) plastic pipe from the brass spigot/tube on the HC is in place, or this could cause a drip.

I found refurb kits for the HC available at http://shop.citroenclassics.co.uk/heigh ... -253-p.asp.
Although the bracketry attached to the HCs varies, the internals (diaphragms, covers...) are the same from DS onwards, it seems.

Hoping to do my dripping front one this week, as soon as the kit arrives.

Atb,
Chris

The headlamp reflector has come off one of it's ball fitings. You MIGHT be able to pull it bacl on through the bulp aperture, but more likely will have to remove the glass and press it back on.

I can't ever recall having had wheels other than black ones and I had a '91 car, similar spec to yours...in fact the same apart from being a manual gearbox. White looked so good in the showroom, I had to have it.

I thought the silver wheels were the thinner ones only fitted to lowest performance cars. 5.5j as opposed to 6j on all other models, but the parts catalogue shows even those to be FXX - Black.
