Its not 1 second to sync, its turn the ignition on and press the fob button and hold within 1 second until the led on the fob flashes, I have found this to be very hit and miss so try it several times while pointing the fob at the it receiver in the roof console, I successfully coded an early single button fob to my Activa, wish I hadn't wasted the fob given its current fate but ho hum. I digress.

Might be worth checking you are getting power at the receiver or swapping it for a different unit, to check your fob is working look at the ir through a mobile phone camera or similar, they will display the ir spectrum as a very bright blue/white light on the screen of the camera/phone unless yours is the later FM transmitter

Dean. This is an s2 car.. theres no IR reciver.. its RF radio with pickup under the glove box.

the red led on the fob just indicates workings not actual transmission. ..

Yup dean.. all s2 xm went radio.. where the xantia stopped with ir untill s2 in 1998..

However s2 xm rf is a different system to the xantias s2 rf system.. and also s1 xm ir is old style hard coded setups and s1 xantia is ir learning system.. where you can pair them "at home" without any special software... as you already know anyway dean... ;-) :-)

Found that, thanks, the leather strap had been carefully hidden under the centre seatbelt so I couldn't see it!

I do now Paul ;)
Its only the receiver that needs to be swapped, I put a xant receiver in the xm and coded two early single button fobs to the car. FM is a bit of a pita to fault find on

That's interesting, so you managed to link an early XM fob to a Xantia receiver? so I suppose it's too much to expect a straight swap of the two units in the roof light.
Where did you put the Xantia one Dean?

So where does this leave me, what should I try now? Thanks for replies so far.

Lubricate the locks, you will be rather annoyed if they seize up.
