Fakemobile XM

OK I thought I'd better start a members cars thread as I picked up my XM yesterday.

Here it is with my C4 VTS on the drive today.

A few problems to start with (well there would be wouldn't there!)
1) I couldn't lock it, but a forum reply told me to press on the key in the lock & that works. I will look at getting the remote working in the future.
2) The climate panel didn't light up so car was misting up to start with, then the heater got hotter & hotter. Controlled the temperature with the sunroof! I've did a search on this forum & found this thread viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5570&hilit=climate+panel so had a look at the fuse box. Rather strangely, it has an in line fuse (30a) next to it and a (slightly melted) fuse in the original position as well. I replace both with new fuses & sprayed contact cleaner over connections, all working! Hooray!
3) Cruise control not working, the green light on the switch is permanently on slightly, it gets brighter if the switch is pushed, but the symbol does not light up in the dark. A Forum reply suggests it could be the brake light switch, will have look when I get a chance.
4) The CD changer in the boot didn't seem to work, says "load disc" in the display. This is me putting discs in upside down! Derr!!

Gave it wash to remove the salt, looks great for a 20 year old car!

Very nice, your pleased with it then?
Its a nice colour that's for sure, and with only a couple of small niggles it looks set to be a good car, wearing its 20 years well!

Lovely car, glad your successfully fixing the issues.
One little thing, your sunroof isn't sitting right. Seems far too high on one side. Hopefully not another fault to add to the list.

I hope you enjoy XM ownership. :D

Thanks, I absolutely love it, as you say not bad for 20 years old, some of the niggles already fixed. Anyway I like to think of this as "character"!

You're right, it wasn't closed quite right, it was dark & I couldn't tell when it was shut. It does judder & creak a bit so I need to see how to lubricate it. I also need to keep Mrs FC away from it, when I had a golf GTI she shut a piece of drain pipe in the sunroof which broke the mechanism! I'm not sure how to make it stop when shut & not go on to slide open again!

Thanks, I am enjoying it!

It should stop automatically, there are micro switches on a cam in the roof console, could be dodgy or loose etc but should be a simple fix.

That's interesting, more investigation required.
