Hi all,
The only time I had a problem with my ex 2.1 td was when it would loose coolant for no reason then I found the radiator drain at the bottom would leak intermittently loosening it and retightening cured that problem then when it started loosing coolant at a later date and checking the bottom drain showed no problem I noticed coolant staining part way up the radiator and so it proved the radiator required replacement which cured the problem it then ran at the same level in the header tank after that with no variations.

Thanks very much, no problems found yesterday. The warning light has now been off for three days.
It seems the sensor may have been playing up- I will watch the level like a hawk from now on though!
My 2.1 seems to be one of the cold running cars: 75-80 indicated on the temp gauge.

Medway Citroen seems to have had a name change and a change of ownership...

That is normal for a 2.1TD. It will go up if flogging it up a mountain pass in summer.

Worth checking with a thermometer. If really 75-80C, that's pretty chilly and inefficient; 85-88 would be better. Stats for this figure usually available.
Unless there is a reason to run a 2.1 at the low figure?

iirc, 82c is the fully open figure for a manual 2.1TD, but they don't get to be fully open unless under significant load for a while. IDI Diesel efficiency isn't affected much by slightly low temperatures.

Shame to hear about Medway changing ownership; I bought my XM from them.

My 2.1 often gives me false 'overheat' warnings. Gauge is where it should be, but I think the issue is with the relays tucked behind the nearside headlamp. Always worth (carefully!) removing them, cleaning them up and putting a little vaseline on the blades. That cured mine a year ago, though it has recently started doing it again. Especially after biblical rain (we've had a lot of that lately!).

Thanks, I am hoping it is just a glitch. It is good to know I am not alone!
Apparently they are moving to a nearby unit early next year...

Well, an interesting week with the Batmobile...
Service completed safely at "Medway Citroen" but some work needed to front suspension and a blow in the rear exhaust.
That was last Tuesday. Returned this Tuesday for the suspension work( drop link and roll bar). Back box fell off 100 yds from home, tied it up and off we went.
The guys did an amazing job and welded the box back up, and fought a very good fight with the drop link.. I cannot recommend them enough. All good now and so much quieter.
A very happy new year to everyone...
