All I did was buy a welder and played.. but I knew basics being techically minded and mechanicly minded helped. I watched a mate a couple of times and then went from there..

Well worth spending some time with an expert, or even doing one of the many evening classes available.
I've always learned plenty from welding professionals.
Good few YouTube tuition videos around too.

I prefer the alternative. Find someone who does know how to weld and let him do the job properly whilst I spend the day at work in order to pay for it.

If you did buy a welder and the gear I'd be happy to spend a couple of hours helping you get started. By the time you've bought welder, gas, materials, safety gear, angle grinder etc you'll likely be a couple of hundred quid in already mind...

The question that needs asking is.. how often will ray use the welder. ? Will it be used every year com mot time?? I think if welding is only needed once in a while its not worth it.. I on the other hand having 4 XM have a higher chance of needing to use one.

Anyway. Its rays choice. And who ever he has in mind to weld it up might be cheap enough for the need not to buy a welder. My experiance is you need 150 plus to get a half decent welder. Anything cheaper isnt really worth it.

That would be great Jonathan, how about showing me some of the things to look out for on the XM?

Well today I went on a 220 mile round trip in CEO and I'm pleased to say she performed without fault.
We went to see a specialist surgeon who's gonna undertake some much needed TLC. Whilst we were there she also urged me to adopt another XM, but I'll tell you all about that another time.
