If this works... Here is a pic of the passenger side strut top... This pic is a few years old and is used courtesy of citroenxm.

Id be a bit more inclined to leave the four nuts holding the top to the mount area and jack the car and then put it in lowest setting.. because the piston can be rather bloody tight in the top mount and can take some hammering..

the next point is when you lower the strut piston to clear the base of the top you will get lhm squirt out of the piston holes where it feed to the strut... being a sinker xm there is no need to release the pressure regulator. . Last thing to do is unbolt the four strut top nuts seen in that last picture you put up ray...

Pleased to say after careful examination the strut tops are in excellent condition. Many thanks to citroenxm for coming up today to check them out for me.

That's good news, but why is one appearing to sit so high?

I think its a deformed suttle edge myself.. I jacked the car up on the passenger side so the wheel was hanging and bounced the wheel up and down and there was no apprent extra movement at all..... so I think the edge is bent downwards...

It might be worth checking the height control rod is set correctly as the photo's were taken with the car set to high and that puts more strain on the strut tops, especially if it set too high.

That would be it then. It's amazing how much the tops do move about when the steering is on full lock or when on high.
