Where's that found then Will? fuel pump?
Front of the fuel pump, with the boost pressure pipe attached too it. As a test, remove the pipe and look for diesel leaking from the compensator.

Thanks Will! I'll try this when we get some dry weather.

I haven't really looked over the car yet, the guy delivering it wasn't supposed to be here until after 11am, he text me at 07:17am and said he was an hour away. I had to make a swift exit from work and get to my Aunties house. When he arrived it was raining quite heavily, I just wanted to get the car off the truck and parked up so I could return to work and dry out before my meeting. I managed to get a couple of pics between downpours, and have a quick sit in the drivers seat.

The garage in the background is being cleared out after Christmas to make room for indoor working and storing of cars.
I need to concentrate on the 4 XM's I currently have before I acquire any more.

I see, a useful tip.. But also more prone to failure on the Lucas pump.

Went up to see her today on my lunch hour, didn't have much time but I wanted to check out underneath. When I got there I chickened out, partly because I didn't want the engine to runaway whilst I was crawling underneath and partly because I don't know how long she holds pressure without the engine running (which isn't very long at the front) However, I don't think I've ever seen an XM rise so elegantly, she lifts almost straight away, and lifts level! I did take a couple of pics, from what I can see the underside is pretty good and it looks like she's had a recent exhaust.

I did go with the intention of looking at the fuel pump, but when I got there I couldn't figure out which pipe to remove. I thInk when funds allow I'll take the pump off and send it away to be refurbed.

I couldn't resist taking a couple of pics next to K-BAN

KBAN is looking fantastic.
Chris did mention he regulary undersealed it. It looks okay. Usual spare wheel carrier trying it's hardest to dissolve!

Where's Jim when you need him... (Mod on FCF) He is an expert at Lucas fuel pumps.

Its easy.. in the pic theres an small 5mm pipe that is next to the other small one that goes to injector leak off.. in the pic above the lower of the two small pipes.. thats the pipe that goes to the fueling device. Theres no need for it really but lucas must of needed it for what ever reason!!

I'm not totally understanding this small pipe and there's not a lot of point me getting rid and then getting 100% involved! However this pipe would produce very high revs with no accelerator, bonfire quantities of smoke and not allow turn off with the stop solenoid assuming I did turn off the ignition fully in all the excitement?

As discussed offline, that centre box and the rear pipework covered all of 140 miles before I gave up, I have to let go, but I just wanted to be clear on the symptoms.

Dear me, glad that never happened on the open road then. Or worse in busy traffic.
