I usually end up taking the tank out from its mountings with the LHM head loose in it.
Then with the tank tilted up towards the bonnet it can be dropped away from the LHM head.
It is much easier to empty and flush the tank off the car.

Another option is to undo and remove all the pipe ends.
Many of us will have replaced the Citroen clamps with jubilee clips making this an easy option.

Whatever you do have a small bowl or plenty of rags to soak up the spilled LHM.
LHM tends to slowly eat through ordinary rubber.

As said you can get the filter head out by undoing the tank and tilting it. As for the LHM, draw some off into a clear glass container and try to read a newspaper through it. If it is easily readable I would just go for cleaning the filters.
