the wheels are the ones that came with the car when new as for the ride with the spheres i have fitted it handles and drives very smooth tbh a smoother ride than the c6!

It's an interesting model this one, it's got the mk 1.5 black bumpers and wingmirrors and as Will said the wobbly webs instead of Italias. Must be a crossover model with bits and bobs from the two series. Unless the Introduction of the estate saw these differences to the saloons too.

Be interesting to compare the differences in the types of spheres. Longer life sounds appealing!

The XM French brochure dated Sept 1991 has an interesting photo on the rear cover.
xmmisc014.jpg
Looks like the Italias had a shorter run than we thought.
I will check for the English version of the brochure.
xmmisc015.jpg
Nearest I can find dated:1 May 1992.

Plastic trim colour (inside and outside) is another that is difficult to pin down to actual date changes.
This is mainly because for a period trim colour became an option with certain paint colours.

When I get an A3 scanner on line I will add some brochure scans to the paint and trim section if Russ is happy with that.

Of course John. Go ahead.

Maybe the trim changes and wobbly webs were introduced with the first batch of special editions.

All a mystery really!

back again have replaced timing belt and leaking coolant pump also 2 strut return pipes car sailed through mot after failing on just cracked number plate

but i have a problem the car takes a while to start cold glowplugs and supply ok
the other problem is although it revs ok and idles ok if i go to pull away on a slight gradient it is gutless and honest you could walk faster which is very embarrising !

all the previous 2.1td's i have owned were not like this.

if you rev it while stopped the turbo guage moves a little

the only way to drive it is to slightly ride the clutch and rev it harder even then it takes its time to pick up speed

i have looked at fuel filter which looks ok but i have ordered a new one anyway which should be here early next week

anyone else had this problem?

just to note the car has been stuck in a garage for the last 10 years

Possible air leak into the fuel pipes or the cold start advance mechanism on the pump is stuck in the normal position. The cold advance lever is on the front of the pump, the cold idle speed adjustment lever is on the rear. Check for air leaks, change filter, run some injector cleaner through the system and drive it, check for leaking boost.

If all else fails, turn the pump fueling up a bit.

If the fuel filter that's on the car now is the same one that's been on for 10 years my first job would be to change it.

thinking now there is one thing i took pump cover off to replace o rings and when i put it together i lost the washer that the advance lever pivots on if you know which one i mean so now the stop lever or advance lever wont move as the washer is not there and i cant find it neither can i find a suitable washer to fit it

i am trying to find someone who has an old lucas pump that i could buy a washer from ?

dont hold much hope i have tried all people i know and they have thrown all there old stuff away

I have an old Lucas pump, if you show me a pic of where I can find the washer I'll take it off for you.

i dont have a picture but if you look at the advance and stop lever the advance lever sits on top of the stop lever and has a large hole in the centre where it goes on the shaft
so take top nut and washer off then you will see the advance lever pivots on the shaft with a washer as the hole in the lever is larger than the shaft

its easy to see and is the only washer that the advance lever pivots on
