Getting to the stage where I am going to have to rewire one car due to loose pins.

John
Loose pins on the ABS ECU board might be fixed with splitting the housing and soldering the pins into the board.

Some ATE-Teves ECU don't have soldered pins at all, they are just spring contacts, but the ones with soldered pins are known for cracked solder joints.

This thread might be interesting for you.

I had been researching ATE controllers as my Merc had spat it's dummy out and lost all ABS, ATC, ETS, CC, ECO functions. These controllers are known for bad joint connections. I split mine and soldered it up, instead of relying on the spring contacts, but found metering it pretty easy, apart from not being able to get readings from the digital wheel sensors due to not having a scope. I tried my LED blink code reader, but thre was insufficient voltage to power the LED. Analogue wheel speed sensors are easy to test, probe the connector and spin the wheel.

I resorted to investing in full diagnostics MUX and software. it trurned out to be a wheel sensor.

Thanks for the link.
Cannot read it at present as the Net connection here keeps dropping.
I will look again when I get home.

Not high on my list at the moment... Done 200 miles now.. a few things Ive noticed.. When taking off theres like a thud from the autobox and then it goes... BUT only in D. If I select 1st gear on the lever it doesnt happen... Could this be a Valve block issue? I assume its not the main gear drive as it doesnt happen when selecting manually.

The fluid looks nice n red ish, but is there a colour difference between Dex 2 and 3... Im just wondering if Dex 3 has been put in...

Non working cruise I would like to look at, the throttle is slightly stiff, and after driving some drive by wire cars which are incredably light, my foot has got tired... LOL..

And still need to sort out a working drivers window winder too...

Well, I decided to spend some time with the XM today.

Firstly I did a Lexia session. I then noticed that I dont actually have an ABS light comming on or giving a sequence...

Lexia could NOT access the ABS ECU giving a No Dialogue with ECU Error... so, need to look further into that..

Then it was either starter swap or non working cruise control... so... I decided to look at the cruise control...

With the Cruise Control Fixing guide on here, and a bit of useing CitroJims pin testing, all power tests to the plug on the ECU were checking out, the brake pedal switch was functioning, the dash switch was working, the lever inputs were working, so the ECU was seeing all working inputs etc...

Then I went to apply 12v to the Vac pump, from the ECU plug, and nothing... Checked the plug on the Pump, was nicely greased up.. so no issues there..

Took the plug back off the pump, and put 12v back on the ECU plug, and nothing at the other end, conclusion... broken wires along the front somewhere..

However, looking a little closer, I soon found the problem... The front end had been off the car previously.. and I found this..

Yup, the harness had been trapped between the front, and broke two wires.. I joind one, but the other has broken further up, so I fitted a tempery wire to proove workings, and it did, worked perfectly! Pleased with that..

So slight progress..

It's always been said that garage mechanics cause millions of pounds worth of faults on UK cars each year. That may or may not have been a garage mechanic, but does prove the point.

Good diagnostics there, Paul.

Well, done a few small things in progress...

Window winder unit still needs some thought... so Ill leave that for now..

After a huge shower I moved the car, as I backed up and then stopped I got a LOVLY shower down my back from the rear side of the sunroof.... ahhh COLD!!

Looked at the LD display... and had sucess.. Going from this:

Image << Clicky for video, im useless at direct planting...

To this:

The useual, opened it up, and cleaned up the ribbons both ends... Pleased with that.

The Right had display also kept giving me dodgy readout, loosing Bars etc... but, I litterally just opend it up, split the unit, cleaned the Pins on the PCB and refitted it all..

All sorted!

But two small things that im not familliar with... I have fitted a NEW speedo sensor, however, to my horror, the needle on the speedo still went up to 55mph... though once warm it behaved. So if its not the sensor, what else do I need to look at??

Secondly, who knows about the Lucas EPIC fuel system, or, no so epic? What would cause the system to smoke a lot on accelleration? Quite smokey, 97k, new air filter, starts fine on all four, goes WELL, very well... just lots of smoke!

I haven't read all teh thread, but do you mean the speedo needle sticks at 55mph when cold, if so, it's just sticking and a spot of light oil should fix it.

For the smoke, has it been chipped?

You don't mention what colour smoke, but has someone been playing about with the pump settings?
