Some time ago, I noticed a spot of engine oil under the car. Engine was wet of oil, so I suspect the valve cover may be leaking.Repairing valve cover from cyl head near the radiator(front) was easy job, but the other one
...first it need to take down hydraulic pump and air con compressor
So i go home with smile on my face, but half hour later that smile was no longer, engine oil still leaking , how, why, from where?
Back to the workshop. After cleaning the engine i found it. Oil pressure sensor was leaking, little cheap part may cause big problem.
After chaning the sensor it was a time for a litle trip. XM has passed over 1600 kilometers average speed was 120-130 km/h,fuel consumption 8.5l/100km, and i can say only it is big satisfaction traveling in car like XM V6.
One pic from one beautiful beach in Greece

Hi Alex,
Glad you got the oil leak fixed, eventually.
That's a great pic of the XM on the beach, after a good long drive - just what the car was built for, as you say.
Fuel consumption rather good too: 8.5L/100km is 33.45mpg in very old money.
It pays to cruise...!

The CX oil pressure switches are notorious for leaking oil. I always carried a spare!

I did, just once, have a good old fashioned dash oil pressure gauge deliver warm oil straight into my lap, whilst driving.
Not nice, but it was a 1935 Rover 10.

Oh yes i know about cx problem with oil pressure sensor,my friend has a 2400 gti who been destroyed that way. This was very hard to find, it was oil all over the right side of engine, somehow oil drops to a driveshaft and she sprayed it around. Finaly the problem was in a part who cost about 7€ and need 15min of work to replace it. But that´s XM love it or hate it

I see from your earlier post that you also had a oil pressure sensor failure Alex. The recent problem on my 24v was more sudden and dramatic with about 1ltr of oil quite quickly discharged! Regards, Matthew T.

I like the illuminated gear selector, very nice, now you just need some old BL illuminated stalks to complete the look!

I was lucky it happend in town, on open road the pressure is bigger so the engine will probably lose more oil.
