Thought I would post up a picture of my "new" xm to replace the written off C6. Its a 2l 16v manual sx.



Its been off the road for a few years, so needs a bit of recomissioning before I dare take it for an MOT.

Today it has had new(ish) discs and pads and a refurbed caliper as well as sorting a duff leak off pipe and a brand new battery. Seems pretty tidy from initial inspection. Previous owner seems to have had it regularly maintained with lots of reciepts with it.

Issues to sort are:
Brakes seized full on both sides front despite replaced components- suspect siezed control rod.
Severe creaking/squeeling coming from rear arm on suspension rise- suspect knackered rear arm bearing.
Need to disconnect the keypad as I dislike it!
Car wont stay locked- not sure why.

More work to be done tomorow!

Hang on a second, what happened to the C6! this is news to me, sad news by the sounds of it.

The brakes locked on and the rear end squeeling are both the brake doseur valve bell-crank is seized holding brake pressure on. Remove the scuttle trim and give the pivot a lube and check for 9mm of free play.

The unlocking is because the door locks are saying one is open.

An inconsiderate motorist put paid to the c6 and a few other vehicles on the m25 recently. Gutted as it was a lovely car but I couldnt justify another one with the repair bills which were the cost of several xms. So here I am!

Cheers for the advice on the doseur valve Will- ill check it out tomorow. Looking forward to seeing what the 2l is like as I have only had diesel previously. Bonus is it has a towbar which should be handy. Got some HID's to go in it as they were brilliant on my old one.

Yes - welcome back! As well as the brake valve, check also that the LHM looks reasonably clean, and use Hydraurincage if not. Dirt in the hydraulic system can also cause sluggish brake action, on or off.

The 2.0 16v at 140bhp is one unit ive not driven.. i beleve its rather efficient for a petrol and can give 42mpg... which i find increadable for a petrol. . Certainly when late xud 2.1 autos do about that..

Welcome back Dave. Such a shame about the C6. Had a similar experience with my first XM on the M6. Grrr!
Also had the seized doseur valve linkage issue before. Made a right racket from the rear brakes whilst rising. So it must be that.

Xm looks good. 16v is quite rare isn't it?
