2.5 sudden glowplug problem

After years of good starting, all of a sudden today 2.5 didn't start on first tweak of the key, despite a 29degC ambient. Good many seconds of cranking needed, and then it started. Would start again if tried immediately, but not after a few minutes.

Found the glowplugs were not operating at all. Batt+ and IGN+ arriving at GP relay ok, and Gnd ok, but relay not clicking, and no output to the plugs.

Opened up, and found one of the internal relay coil pins had a perfect doughnut ring crack in its soldered joint into the p.c.b., bad enough that the pin was actually wobbly. Resoldered and AOK. GPs working again, and back to a perfect start.

Another fortunate bit of timing, as I'm about to set off on Tuesday for Fort William (about 2000 miles), the North Coast 500, and another couple of thousand back home. Not the first time the XM has been considerate where it wobbles.
