The log book has it as an SI. I could never really put my finger on the reason why but I did always prefer the interior in this one to the later one. It's a 2.0l manual with about 120k on it, as far as I can recall. I gave up starting it after it blew a pipe, thinking that I'd damage the hydraulic pump if it ran out of fluid. I've since learned that it should be OK so I'll have to take a battery around and at least turn it over.

Can't say I was ever really struck on the colour though.

In the 2 black bags you can see on the car are 2 halfs of a push bike that is probably worth twice what the car would be worth, even re-commisioned.

I can't remember what changes were made to the dash between S1 & S2s. I do know I've always prefered the original CX dash to the later ones.

I have also taken the time to read right through that very good thread on turret tops. It was the search for turret tops that led me to the silver S2, which I can't abandon!

As it happens, I did eventually aquire a pair of struts that had good tops. They are in another garage, alongside my CX, which also, surprise, surprise, needs re-commisioning!

Silver wouldn't be my first choice of colour for an S1 Xm, I thought your was Onyx green, but yours is a nice, early car.

Rp no 04739

First reg 26/01/1990 in SW London.
Previous owners = 5.

It wouldn't surprise me if your strut tops are in better condition that you think. The peeling rubber makes them look worse than they are.

I am currently breaking my 1990 SD which was in perfect condition. Interior and exterior plastic colours were different on early cars, compared to ones from 1992. Early cars were grey exterior, black interior. Later cars were reversed. Only hurricane grey interior parts are available new now.

This car was built on 30 October 1989, so it will be interesting to see if it's a factory, or aftermarket sunroof.

With hindsight, Citroen UK selecting to have all UK XM with sunroofs was a poor choice.

I thought I heard it groan a little under the weight of all that junk! Oops, sorry, I mean paraphenalia, not junk. Looks as if you are stress-testing the roof!

I am, and pleased to report that so far it's holding up well. I wondert how much more it can take?

You got all of that info from the reg? As for colour it's shown as "Grey". I seem to remember all of the electrics working with the exception of the sun roof, (which I can't remember at all!!)

I did, on a couple of occasions, experiance the gear linkage popping out thing. 1st time it happened I could see nothing but pound signs until the recovery driver simply reached down the back of the engine and popped it back together again. 2nd time I knew what to do.

The original radio didn't work so I replaced it with a cheap cd player. I've kept the original radio casette and wouldn't mind having it fixed. Years ago I remember seeing several on Ebay.

My CX came with an after market Nakamichi rad cassette. I bet that wasn't cheap.

And I think I'm going to have to take a break from XMs. Last night I was actually dreaming about my diesel one! I had somehow managed to bend 5 engine valves, (yes, it was definetly 5,) and was concerned about the cost of replacing them.

LOL...

For info, the 2.1TD won't bend valves if the timing belt snaps. The rocker cam followers are designed to be sacraficial and break.

In which case can be fixed without even removing the head and i have actually done them without removing the cam shaft either .... so not a bad fix to do...

I've seen loads of talk about the differences between the 1s & 2s, but couldn't really remember what my 1 was actually like. So today, before putting my bike away I decided to have a sit in it, 1st time in over a year.

And the big difference is, I think, the thinner, single spoke steering wheel, which I prefer the feel of. I always seem to prefer the thinner wheels of older cars. How about this one on my Renault?

I have a spare, as you can just see, but it isn't the correcr one for the year. If I can't find an appropriate one I might have to have that knackered one restored. £250, apparently.

It will be a momentous day when that S1 XM is disinterred!

LG.
