Spot the XM!
Thought it about time that I introduced my other XM;
This was actually my 1st and it seems I aquired it in Feb 01. On the reg doc it is listed as an SI.
When I got it the clutch was slipping and the brake valve was faulty. A local garage did the clutch and fitted a new brake valve, (sourced by me from Pleides,) but on driving it home the regulator sphere was working overtime, which it hadn't been beforehand.
Turns out the new brake valve was faulty. Pleides changed it, no problem, and I actually fitted the replacement. Fired it up and regulator cutting in around every 25/30 secs.
Actually had a good years use out of it, including some nice long runs back and forth to Devon. Slept in it a few times too.
The only thing known to be wrong with it when it was interned where you now see it was very poor looking turret tops. Before all of that stuff got piled up on it I used to regularly start it and run it out of there.
Then there came a time when I was bringing my little Renault back from Cornwall and it was due to go into the garage. Well, the XM obviously got wind of this and the very next time I ran it out it she blew a hydraulic pipe, big time. Just managed to put it away and that's where it has been ever since.
I suspect that it may need more than turret tops now.
Don't worry though, it's on my "to do list"
LG.!

The good thing is that it was garaged and stored in dry place.
How long it sits there and what's the last time the engine ran?

XM burial is an art form.
Your mistakes were to try to do it in far too small a garage and to use non XM bits as camouflage.

Oooo. An early G reg. very nice. what spec and RP is it out of interest?
I agree with Ray, that needs to be pulled out it and fixed up!
I got my strut tops done via a chap in Holland. He exchanges your old ones... providing they can be rebuilt, for revolcansied rubber ones. So they look all OEM. Excellent quality too. Trouble is they do cost a bit. In the region of about £450 for a pair including postage. Or there is the Kingas ones. The important thing is there are options!

G platers need keeping as these all disapear quickyl.. im guilty of letting a G plater go..
If you cannot afford 450 quid for tops im sure i might be able to find a pair for half the price in perfectly serviceable order.

Actually. I think this is the car you should concetrate on and not the S2 N reg car you have.. theres a fair few s2 xm about.. but the change of dash on the S2 lost the original character of the s1..

Re: Spot the XM!
I couldn't agree more. Use the S2 car as a donor to get this one back on the road.citroenxm wrote:Actually. I think this is the car you should concetrate on and not the S2 N reg car you have.. theres a fair few s2 xm about.. but the change of dash on the S2 lost the original character of the s1..
