Yes, don't worry. I had similar thoughts to you when I got the XM. Just set off as if on a flat, even on a hill

Exactly. They actually do better, no-fuss hill starts (even very steep ones) easier than any car I can remember.
Like going downstairs, it's best not to work out what your feet are actually doing.

Well, I've been to Norfolk and back (from Manchester) to visit family, and visit Matt too (thanks Matt for the bits), and what do you know, hill starts are easy, just as Chris and diesel man describe. I'm driving the car confidently now, very pleased with the way it goes and the way it rides. 34mpg on the first tank full. Building my list of little jobs to do, most of which I can do. First two, fix the screenwasher and replace the driver's side head light.

It was very nice to meet you Derek and the car certainly looked really tidy and an excellent purchase and entry into the world of XMs! Hopefully we shall meet at future rallies and do let us know how you get on with the few little jobs planned. There is a great deal of knowledge and camaraderie here on the Forum!
