so here is the 'barn find' s1 v6 that has been talked about in the selling page
its sei spec so has almost everything you could get on these the only thing ive seen on other cars is headlight washers

few bits of damage around the car espectially on the plastic bumpers front and rear some wires have been nibbled by the mice nest on the engine although dont seem too major

Thanks for posting the photos Ben and that is good news all went well with the collection. Hopefully the car has also now had a thorough clean! The service manuals should stand you in good stead and it is time to update your profile! With regards, Matthew T.

had some time today to get started on it
i put a battery on it with inline fuse and an ameter so i could tell if there was some sort of short and all seems ok
most things either work or try to work but are stuck/slow after not being used for so long

im not sure if its because it was just on ignition and not started but pressing the fan speed buttons dont do anything although the rest seems ok im fairly sure i can hear the motor that controll where the air blows out moving about and the fan motor do work although understandably it squeels a bit and pressing the A/C button engadges the radiator fans on slow (why though surly the refrigerant would have all escaped by now unless this system works differant to my peugoet which from experiance will only spin the fans up if the A/C works )

lights work window wipers work diddnt try rear windscreen demist nor heated seats (although one rear one was on and seemed to work)
armrest works

LH display work fine RH is also fine

suspension height leaver is very stiff

boot dont open suspect its the relise handle broken inside

central locking works (not on remote as battery flat)

dipstick is broken

electric door mirrors move about fine

i had a look in the LHM tank and its green so that looks clean must be a good sign

there seemed to be a constant 2 amp draw with the ignition off and when i put a battery on theres a relay click and stays on is this a fuel pump relay i can hear no fuel pump though

how do the keypad work it shows red and if you press C a few times it flashes green and the red is still on (i think) diddnt touch it after this

thats all i can think of what ive found so far at the muinite might have missed something though

oh and the build date number is 5876

That all looks fixable.
The 2-amp continuing current draw from the battery (after IGN sw'd off) could well be the suspension electrovalve(s) continuing to operate until they shut down (normally 30secs; but 10mins or so if a door or boot is open, or sensed open), or an unspotted light on somewhere. Door etc switches can misbehave with lay-up.
Some electrical items* won't operate unless the engine is running, as they're fed via the Engine Running Relay.
Your Owner's Handbook should explain the keypad and what the red/green LEDs are indicating.
Boot, iirc, can be set to either allow central locking to lock/unlock it, or have this function solely performed by inserting the boot key. Handbook again. Think this applied to S1, but not sure.

*heavy current items, in the main: likely including HRW, heated seats, heater blower...
See Gabor's Circuit Diagram for what goes via the Engine Running Relay.

All good fun. Keep the photos coming!

The key for the boot is very stiff/sized so can’t do anything there

I don’t have a handbook for it I’m afraid

Yes,this is all very interesting. Have you hand cranked the engine to see if it is free?

Check the fuse box lid under the passenger side dash board.
The Owners Manual usually lives there in the lid.

Do not play with the keypad yet if the red light stays on.
3 random inputs can lock out the ECU and prevent starting.
If it does not go green with ignition on then it was not set out of use when the car was stored.
Check for hand written notes in handbook or request set code from former owner.

Ok will check the fuse box lid when I’m back from work

How would I know if I’ve alredy locked out the ecu or not what would the keypad do

No I’ve not tried starting yet or turning over yet I think some light oil down the bores is a good idea after standing so long

Glad someone got this, looks like the basis for quite a nice car with a little fettling, good luck with it, hopefully, there are not too many issues to work through.
