Hi Ben,
If you are getting red and green lights together on the immobiliser keypad with the ignition first position there must be a code set. As suggested by John I would check any paperwork and/or ask the previous owner.
It would not be a bad idea to dribble some light oil into the cylinders, although one of my cars sat for eight years and then turned over happily enough.
I never use keys for the boot and always rely on the central locking, which is probably playing up in your case.
With regards,
Matthew T.

From S2 Owner's Handbook (unsure whether yours functions the same):

Opening the Tailgate (Depending on model)
Unlock with the remote control or the key.
The tailgate lock may be operated independently of the central locking.
- If the key is withdrawn in the vertical position, the locking will operate with the central locking system.
- If the key is withdrawn when inclined at a 45 degree angle, the locking will be independent of the central locking system and the tailgate may only be unlocked using the key.
Source: Handbook XM-GB-5008 p.28

The latter arrangement is, presumably, to prevent the boot from being opened when the car is being driven, but stationary in traffic.

Found the handbook seems to be for s1 but unfortuantly no code

On the keypad there’s nothing with ignition in first position and second position the numbers light up and only the red light
Putting a code in makes it beep at you
Pressing c 4 times makes red and green come on why is this

Part of the instrument cluster don’t work and the RH display don’t light up the instrument cluster will be bulbs I know but what about the RH display

Also something strange going on with the interior lights you can press the interior button to turn them on and nothing will happen turn them off and they come on briefly

I can hear at least the front electro valve much louder than I expected
And I can hear fuel pump now too

Front heated seats doming work at all
Rears not very well which is a shame but not the end of the world for the time being

Hinge on glovebox is broken looks like a new pin is all what is needed and the jangle to open it don’t work

Boot seems to be Seperated from central locking as it’s horozontal but key slot is sized

There’s a spare ecu here too Bendix fenix 3

I think that’s about it for stuff wrong with it I’ve found so far not too bad I don’t think

Also found the original buyer in with the manuals

Bought from Citroen Berkeley square London by blink productions famous for the Cadbury’s gorilla advert among others on 1/8/93

V5 was then transferd to a Robert Laurie on 5/4/94 who happens to be one of the founders of blink productions I smell a tax fiddle
He seems to have kept it for a number of years

Spare Engine ECU may be an indication of the previous owner trying to solve a code locked car.
Code is stored in the ECU not the keypad.
So code problems move with the ECU if put in another car.
If he is willing get Mathew to check your ECU's in a fully working car.
That will confirm if they are code locked.
It will also identify if the wiring problems on your car are causing the ECU problems.

If you cannot find the owners manual then I can supply a scanned copy for the correct year.

Siemens bought out Bendix fairly early on during the XM production run.
If one of the ECU's gives a green light there are two possible reasons.
That ECU may have been modified to eliminate the code by a specialist at great expense.
Alternatively it may have been set to ignore the key pad.
This was an extra option unique to the V6 engine ECU.
Do not play with key pad entries if this is the case as doing so can revert the ECU to previous owners code.

Since the car is late S1 the Siemens ecu should be the original Ben and when there is just a green light the code could simply be set to '0000', as the handbook will explain. We are all still dieing to know whether you have turned the engine over, which would be my first priority task! With regards, Matthew T.

Hopefully you are right Dean, although from my bitter experience starters tend to expire rather too keenly on the V6! With regards, Matthew T.

No I’ve not turned it over not yit I need to clear the engine bay of all the leaves etc before I do that they’re all stuffed down where the aux belt is and don’t want to cause myself any unesery work
