I gather either it’s bad fuel or blocked filter
I diddnt plug back in throttle position sensor
Or a bad ICV
Or a bad coolant temperature sensor.

Got home to find some more LHM had arrived in the post for me so I put some of that in
And put a bit of petrol in (turned out the bad running was just no fuel)

Another thing when I got the car there was a head gasket kit in the car
However when I ran it it held water pressure fine but oil still made its way into the water
turns out it was the oil cooler
I took the two pipes off and joined them together
The oil cooler is now leaking oil very badly out of the old water pipes can the cooler be taken off
Touch wood the head gaskets were the wrong diagnosice

Other than that suspension now goes up and down fine now there’s enough oil in he system however the pressure regulator is now leaking from the same place again I’m pretty curtain that it’s not coming from further up
The bolt on the bottom is tight

As for the idling problems where blipping the throttle means the car maintains high revs I belive to be an ICV issue (I unplugged it and made things better) mixed with a still slightly dodgy throttle return I will confirm the next time I start the engine

I put the original ECU on also and there’s no change whichever one I use the other days running problems was just lack of fuel I expected the gauge to be further down when it runs out of fuel clearly not (at least on my one)

Good news about the oil cooler - better than a HG!
Temporarily, while you find a replacement, you can jump the two (water-pipe) snouts of the oil cooler together with a length of stout hose. This will keep weeping oil inside the cooler.
Best to replace the cooler (especially on a V6). (It can be removed completely, but you'd need a shorter threaded (?M20?) tube to allow filter to be directly screwed into the engine flange.)

Can recommend this stuff for cleaning oil out of the cooling system. It is extremely good; just follow the instructions on the can and/or website:
LiquiMoly Radiator Cleaner, 300ml, ref: 2506
Buy two.
Shifts oil, grease, calc etc, and doesn't damage rubber and seals.

Regulator leak: have you checked the return pipe and its coupling? Otherwise, all you can do is to clean it up and dry it off, and then watch for the drip to appear.

I dont -run an oil cooler and i dont get any oil temp issues, not sure its really needed in -the uk.

I can’t feel or see any dampness around what I think is the return only around the base I’ve taken pictures but I’m on my phone but they’re the same as the pictures before anyway

Can’t renember it’s name think it might be a holts product but I used it in the kitten to clean the water ways up in that worked a treat it says to just run the car up to tempriture on the pack but I left it in there for a few days and made everything very clean
Comes with a second bottle to nutrilise everything when you flush the cleaner out which you then flush out again and replace with a coolant of your choice again I left the nutriliser in for a few days

That will likely be an acid flush (descaler) to shift calc/sediment deposits, and which requires neutralising.
Oil contamination is something quite different, and a safe solvent/detergent is needed, which the LiquiMoly product provides.
Speak from experience here, having had two oil coolers perforate on the 2.5, and inject the cooling system with oil.
A de-calc/radflush will not dissolve and shift the oil.

You may find you can 'hook out' a good bit of the oil, because it tends to collect as a slick in the header tank (the oil floats on the coolant), and a lot of it can be taken out by repeatedly dipping some doubled up kitchen roll into the tank. Oil will cling to the tissue, leaving most of the coolant behind. After that, use the LiquiMoly cleaner, to reach all the other bits of the system.

Hopefully the engine oil cooler is the water leak issue Ben and they do have a reputation for failing. On at least two of my cars the coolers had been removed, although in some cases I have reinstated in part for originality. If you decide not to replace there is a extension sleeve to remove and no extra parts are required, but of course the coolant pipes need adjustment. Unless the hydraulic leak is serious I would not worry too much for the present and focus on other matters like replacement of spheres etc. With regards, Matthew T.

Just out of interest, Matt, were those failed/removed V6 coolers (1103 91, NFP) aluminium, or steel like the XUD versions?
The poor 2.5 item is alu, and made by Valeo.

Yes unfortuantly the hydrolic leak is quite bad about a drip per second last night
