If it is the differential bearings eventually the speedometer will start to play up as the drive gears un-mesh.

Mot today... and we failed
Screenshot_20231103-114236_Chrome.jpg
My main concern was whats happening at the rear.. and seems theres a couple of things going on..
20231103_140702.jpg
Off side strut pipe is damp..

But the main area was around the height corrector.. weither it has a split diaphram or not I dont know just yet.. I just stuck my arm under to try and give me an idea..

Looking at the pipes to the height corrector it looks like we were heading for a potential pipe burst soon anyway..
20231103_140816.jpg
The abs according to lexia, I cleared the ecu of all faults yesterday, so when I got back today two faults were intermittent front nearside sensor, and off side rear. The rear off side sensor wouldn't clear, so its either the connecting plug ontop of the subframe or potentially dry grease in the abs teeth..

Parking brake passed! Service brake was the headache but now braking details are connected directly to vosa dvsc, so the pass or fail descision is determined by their main computer. All I can do is check the discs and pads and I guess bleed up the calipers all round ... I was quite suprised by this because the brakes are pretty good ..

The bolt missing, well, my fault for not sorting it when it sheared off earlyer in the year.. and the cv boot just needs a clip on it.

The brake efficiency is an odd one, is it front or rear brakes?

The dampness on the rear ram pipe looks more like residual wetness than a leak, but that height corrector pipe is definitely on borrowed time.

The mot garage has upgraded all their mot equipment and the brake and emission machine is linked directly to vosa dvsc.. it didn't specify.. so its a guess.. ill bleed the brakes up, all round, put some weight in the boot and go from there.

Thinking about it, it can only be residue as the lhm level in the tank doesn't move and there's nothing dripping..

I'll try and get under and give it all a wipe down and see if the corners of the height corrector feed pipes are rescueable... I dont fancy making pipes or joins at the moment..

That's strange that the tester can't say which brake is underperforming, a retrograde step.

There is no mention of corroded pipe on the fail sheet, only leaks. Rust is 12x thicker than the parent metal, so a good thick rust scab is only a small loss of steel.
The tester will allow up to 0.25mm of steel loss before failing a brake, or suspension, pipe.

I've struggled under this morning and the "pipe" which has a leak is actually the height control clamp rod however I think there is a weep. And sadly it entails sideways box off job to get it looked at more closely and done properly and its fighting I'm done over now for today. .

I think he his mistaken the control rod here for a pipe

Actually looking again at these pictures.. what would be best to clean all that crap off and dissolve it if it can rescue the height corrector pipe I think a clean down will do .

Brake cleaner? Petrol?

Brake cleaner, or petrol will work, but so will a heavy, water soluble, degreaser, such Gunk, or Jizer, or an alkali (caustic) cleaner.

To gain really good access to the pipes you need to drop the rear subframe.

Upper mounted pipes on top of the subframe were checked last year when I fitted the brake pipe as I had to do a rear to safety valve pipe.. at the moment will I'm only fit to do the minimal.. I'm not really fit enough to be dooing this but I push myself too much.... then suffer really badly the residue is all confind to the height corrector area. I wonder if the leak off L pipe is a bit loose allowing a weep.

I did wonder that, too.
The leak seems to be above the height corrector and, iirc, the return pipe is the only one up there.

A local Janitorial Supplies company will sell Alkali cleaner concentrate in 5L cans for not much money.
Acid based cleaners are used as metal brighteners, Alkali cleaners are used for grease and oil removal.
