I did strip this one down about 10 years ago. It improved but went lazy again..
Strip the actual lock barrel down to make the key work.
Even an incorrect combination barrel can be made to work by reassigning the pins.

S1 and S2 are different, as the lamps and gauges move to different positions.

I thought so.. I have a couple anyway. Cheers will saved me digging for wiring diagrams etc. Dash needs to Come apart to rest some S2 displays and gear selector limitation bulb is out.. Plus the Lh display has started to pixel out again.. I successfully sorted it about 15 years ago too.. So it lasted well.

So a bit of a dash day today.. Sorting small niggles out. Firstly test out the cruise vac pump with solinoid activated and up it worked. So a quick test now confirmed cruise control now working.
The dash had a dodgy auto gear selector display.. And non working heater plug warning lamp as mentioned above.. So stripped the dash down..
I found another auto gear display so tackled that first.. Swapped bulb for a working one and swapped the lcd from the other unit. Plugged it in and now a lovley displayed P R. ND 3 2 1.. Instead of. Guessing.
Next the warning lamp. I couldn't find another warning lamp unit so after some tests with my multimeter I found it wasn't a cracked board but a dry joint on the plug connector. Flash some solder over it sorted.. While I was in there I thought I'd check the speedo as it played up week or so ago.. And there was three dodgy looking solder joints so again flashed the iorn over them... And put it all together.
While the dash was apart I had two Lh displays so I tried them.. One was about 85% working.. The other the display was inverted and only about 45%.., so put it all back together and feeling achieved that just about everything works..

Things that don't work...
RF plipper doesn't work but locking does Inc boot.
Air con doesn't work, but need a system vac on it after I had it apart
Nearside mirror doesn't adjust up or down however it does with lexia and does dip when R is selected.. Its not the switch tried three .. Drivers mirror works in all directions..
Not tried the headlight washers on it..

The speedo is a common issue, due to the flylead plugging onto that mini connector, with no support.

Hmm, I said the glow-plug lamp would be solder joints.
I hadn't thought that the lamp moved to the warning lamps section from the instruments, so it's the yellow connector.

Still...nice fix.

Not looked at Gabor's diagram for glow-plug lamp, but experience tells me it is likely to be either the lamp, or cracked solder joint on the board edge connector....Hmm, blue one iirc.

OK with suffering with the inconvenience of non working plipper and useing the door lock everytime to get in the boot I bought a cheap chineese RF kit.

After discovering I was looking at the wrong item on the wiring diagrams and some help from others as seen in my other post I connected the box up 4 connections.. Three to earth.. One positive and lock and unlock wires it worked..

So this morning I made the connections a bit more solid. I butchered a xantia locking box for a socket and cut a plug out. Soldered the wires to the pins.

Plugged it in and hey presto. It behaves the same as the original key. One button to lock and unlock.. The other to dead lock. Not quite sure how as it has a lock wire signal and unlock signal. I've removed the original Texton box completely.

Inside the lock unit there is a second flip-flop switch which informs the Control module whether the lock is single, or double locked.

If single locked, another lock instruction performs deadlocking and an unlock instruction unlocks irrespective of the locked state of the lock unit.

Can you please give detail of which connections were made, so others have reference, if required.

Yes OK.. Although it's mostly on the other post...

But plug connections to the Texton box (stolen from Wills post on the other topic)
Only 5 of the connector pins are used (6 on a few 1996 XM's).
Pin functions are:-
A1 - Information output - dual output - locking & deadlocking.
A2 - Information output - unlocking
A4 - Not used unless vehicle not fitted with alarm.
A5 - Information output - alarm identity to ADC keypad (6th wire on 1996 XM's only).
B1 - Earth
B2 - Ignition controlled 12v +ve.
B3 - Battery permanent 12v +ve.
B4 - Not used on XM.
B5 - Not used on XM.

So I took earth and positive from the B1 and B3 connections then referring to the diagram for the locking box on them setup I was using yellow and yellow/black wires also earthed all to same earth point..
The the white and white/black wires are the lock and unlock signals and they connected to the A1 and A2 connections respectively
