Other then brake test, as expected as I addressed the immediate items needed, we are done..

It appears the abs light had been the power relay box, as its been behaving perfectly and the light is staying out..

So another year to go, but not without small jobs along the way. I need to get some bottom track arm bushes. They are on ebay 25 quid the the rear ones, and about 9 quid for the fronts, and asses the corrosion areas ..

Well i decided. As part of its future spruce up, decided to get one of these remade leather selector levers for the.car..

The selector lever does let it down in bare plastic when all else has leather on it.. so we shall see how it turns out..

I have been experimenting with the autobox load/kickdown cable..initially I found it too short which was causing the box to hold 3rd right into 3k rpm very pountlessly .. its a diesel not a petrol.. so I had been using it disconnected, which makes the box change up at road speed, coupled with the td torque made the economy go from around 30mpg to 40 plus due to the engine not pointlessly revving away...

However, it had an issue where the change from 3rd to 4th made the revs flare up momentry before going to 4th..

However I found with the load cable attached this issue did not happen.. so thinking about it, I needed to make the cable longer, so its not being pulled on as much to make 3k rpm, so my first experiment I used 2x cable ties to make the length up..

Went for a test drive and would you know.. 2nd to 3rd slight jerk has gone and 3rd to 4th change is now as normal.. still changing at 50mph but no flare and no kickdown acticivation. Perfect...

Now I wanted to tidy it up.. I then found that the cable at the fixing U bracket would move across to the otherwise of the locking nut, thus moving the cable up a bit more ..

That looks a bit better.. the kickdown is operating a bit better, its not holding 3k revs in 3rd and when in 4th its not over keen to kickdown to 3rd like it was initially.. so has Improved greatly.. very happy, now makes the car more drivable and enjoyable now....

Looks like a worthwhile experiment.

A small update, mainly on me...

As of End of November my rib cage had started giving me serious pains again and reducing my movements .. I was fortunate to of been able to sort out the mot items on cgo before it got too serious... however, it has got too much to be able to sort out my off side cv joint which despite the boot being in place and cv grease had been weeping heavy use has destroyed the cv joint in that it seriously cracks on both left and right lock..

Due to how I am now with any work currently suspended I've had to ask my mot garage to do the cv joint, a joint supplied, from me .. mainly because I need the xm for the soft ride and seats which do not affect my ribs .. unlike the 207 which is hard and hard seats, and Sarah is slowly getting used to driving the auto..

I'm hoping now nothing else goes wrong untill we get on top of this next fight. Its not a relapse, it was mainly treatment had stopped being effective.. resulting in them being able to do what they do....

While any form of work is suspended at the moment a month ago or so I ordered a replacement gear selector lever from Q&k classic... it arrived today.. first impressions .. very nice and a good feel to it...

Next to fit it, but won't be able to for a few days at least or untill we get this severe pain under control..

While ongoing suspended work is active, we left the car at my mot garage to do the cv joint.. I supplied a joint that was on another shaft, with a sealed boot so assumed a good joint, phone call today ready to collect, with a very pleasing cost for labour..

Shall see if we are well enough to go and collect her tomorrow..

I'll then need to work on getting the gear lever swapped over..

We shall see on that..

Glad to have the cv done it really was on its very last legs and ready to explode, not only was it cracking on full left lock but also on right lock and it didn't even need full lock to crack..

Sounds like the garage did the decent thing and donated 15 minutes work to a good cause. Well done.

I've only known one CV joint let go, but it sent bits and balls everywhere. The failure was ultimately due to the wheel bearing having excess play.

I've had good long term experience with psa cv joints overall to ve fair . Rarely ever needed to change them..

Its almost a one off..

I told the garage there was no rush what so ever, they are good with me and very fair..

An update.. as many may know.. I've had to suspend myself from any car work i do myself due to my current health deteriating slightly more then we expected.. not long after the mot the off side cv joint started crackling badly on left and right hand turns.. I had no chance to do it and therefore for the first time had to ask my mot garage to change it for me. I supplied a shaft with a joint, and last week after three days (my instruction was no rush, not them being slow at all) I recived her back with a lovley quiet cv joint... happy days..
Now, the amazing response over the white v6 resto has been immense .. and the v6 is being collected tomorrow Tues 23rd to go to be finished off.. when she comes back the 2 1td will come off the road for a rest..
There is a list of small jobs growing on the 2.1td which will now have to wait untill we know which way im gonna go. But I'll be enjoying the v6 in the mean time

Things that the td need..
Yesterday at parking speeds the PAS was virtually non exsistant. So, I think its time she had an lhm change to hydraflush and filters cleaned up.
Water comming in at the front, sunroof area.. that will entail roof lining out for closer look
Drivers window regulator sorting out, id plan to fit a mk 1 unit with some modified wiring.
The drivers door card upper handle pull to close door where it screws to the door has rusted and come off the door so some carefull welding or fabricating is needed there .
Rear drivers side window regulator doesn't work
Coolant loss.. slow but does go down, I think the heater matrix is suspect .
The heater controls aren't happy.. the dash needs to come out to access both stepper motors, free up the heaterbox gears a bit as they're a bit stiff and set up the stepper motors to heater flap positions correctly..
Ac still isn't giving me a sealed system.

So a few things building up to be done.. which at this moment in time I cannot do..
