Spinning Door lock :-(

Post by Betweenthewheels » Mon May 19, 2025 5:48 pm

Good evening folks - another quick question about the above.

Recently I had a blank key cut as a spare for my '98 24v and everything was working perfectly with it: It opened the driver's door and started the engine (with the immob code of course). All perfect. Until it wasn't.
Today, I go to open the car and the driver's lock is spinning with the key (and now with the orginal key with fob as well which luckily I had with me).

What do I need to do to get the door lock behaving properly again (even if just with the original factory supplied key and fob only and not the recently cut blank)?

Thanks in advance.

The pins in the lock are probably stiff with old lubricant and dust and are not dropping into position.

Spray some thin lubricant into the keyhole and work the key in and out. If the key spins, pull it out and reinsert it the other way up.

You have to push the lock barrel inwards to make the internal dogs grip. It's a security feature.

I have a similar issue on mine! None of the locks work with the keys, only on the central locking.
I have been told that the little Allen headed grub screw behind the rubber grommet on the door would release the lock to get it out and fettle… but the grub screws are seized 😂
Sorry this reply isn’t much help…

Try hammering an Allen key into the grub screws to shock them.

When I first got my car the locks spun - I lubricated them and kept pushing the key in and out - lots of dirt came out and then they worked perfectly
