That's like the Guy who had the gold XM and asked if anyone wanted it. I asked about strut tops and then he scrapped it before informing us it was going. They're gone now..

I've already apologised about the strut tops...a change in circumstances meant it had to go to scrap early.

I think you remember of me saying that my Cit dealer (Glasgow Finnieston) priced it at £3.5/lt.Dieselman wrote:
Didn't someone say that Citroen dealers are only about £2.50 for a litre of LHM.
.
BUT
When I came round to pick this and other parts, a different parts person wanted £7.50/lt. I didn't get it of course.
THEN
About 2 weeks later, on picking up another part, the "£3.50" parts person asked why I had not picked up my LHM order. When I told him the story, he insisted it was £3.50/lt. I won't know anytime soon for real, as I'd bought from my indy for £4.50 in the meanwhile.
But, really...I mean...Citroen, get your butt up and compose yourselves....for God's sake! Not knowing their price of LHM!!

Re: I was the buyer of that ebay XM...
Thanks for all the replies.
It ended up needing nearly 4 litres of LHM to fill it up! The orange floater doesn't seem to work in any position, I put it on the highest setting to see if it would move between the lines but its just sitting right at the top of the top. It also seems to spew LHM out of the filler cap when I move between heights. There was a scary moment when I put it on the lowest mode and it wouldn't raise again and the stop light came on and the display said something like warning hydraulic pressure & spewed LHM out of the filler cap all over my driveway. I switched off and started car again and it raised back to normal position.
To the person who said I can get a plipper on ebay for £30, that would be ace but don't you need to know the security code or something to recode it to the engine? Really need to find a way of locking the car, no point having a big boot if I have to empty it every time I leave the car
There is another problem! As per the ebay listing the dipped beam doesn't work, I presumed a couple of bulbs but I've replaced bulbs (originals went into my ZX & they were fine) and no effect. I've checked & replaced fuses, originals were ok. The main beams work fine, fogs & sidelights work fine. I've used a multimeter to test if there is a current (by test for current thru the fuses) and there is nothing. Testing the main beam fuses give a reading of 5.5v but nothing on the dipped beams. I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that the headlamp relay is on the offside front, a green relay, I had a couple of spare ones and swapped them round, no differnt. Got to take it for mot in a few days & obviously it will fail this! Can anyone shed any light on this please? Its a 1995 M reg (series 2, or 3?)
I'm new here & this is my 1st XM...really hope its not going to be a money pit cos I really like it.

Re: I was the buyer of that ebay XM...
To see what's actually in the main reservoir check out through the filler cap with a torch when the car is on the lowest
setting to see the system's LHM fluid returned back to it. When the system is pressurised and maxed up in height all that
fluid goes into the feeds to raise the car and that's why the level always needs to be checked on this maximum height
thus ensuring the minimum amount IS available to make it all work - the float in the LHM reservoir must be stuck and
wedged at the top as you've filled it with too much which is why it's spewed the excess out.
Does the car raise and stabilise on height and have some suspension movement now!?
The dip beam issue will almost inevitably be one of the relays that live above the main headlight on the driver's nosecone /
headlight panel; wriggle the relay with everything on and you'll see life. IIRC it's the inboard to the centre one that
works the dip beam but the adjacent works it's partner main so you're on the right track. failing that check out a blue
multi-plug ahead of the battery box on the nearside.
Stick with it; once you understand it or at least you and it come to an understanding, all will work well.

As Andy said, it sounds like you have overfilled the hydraulic reservoir somewhat. You can test the level indicator by unclipping the top cover and lifting it up. the mushroom will fall.
The losing hydraulic pressure on a full 'let down' is normal, it just takes a short while for pressure to build again. In itself this indicates the reservoir had adequate fluid all along as otherwise it would have shown the STOP light when the pump was starved.

Re: I was the buyer of that ebay XM...
Essentially you just need the door locks working - there's just x2 so try those before getting bogged down with the IR plipper.
I honestly do not know if s1 ans s2 are the same but I do know S1 locks are incorporated into the half handle and are easily
removed so second hand good one's are the answer or £60 from this ebay auction:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CITROEN-XM-89-IGN ... 4cefd864f9
I wouldn't worry about changing the ignition barrel over.
John (xmexclusive) knows his s2 locks mind so I'd hope he can enlighten you more in this respect!!
