XM Under stress

Post by citroeneer » Tue Oct 19, 2010 4:10 pm

Hi guys,

Having this awkward problem, where occasionaly the xm drives like its towing a heavy loaded caravan....where i need to press the gas fully to move at 'normal' pace...but at other times its perfectly normal.

What could possibly be wrong? Btw, its 2.0 Petrol Auto.

Hi

We are going to need some more details, does it run rough/missing, is it smoking, difficult to start? when was the last time the car was serviced? fuel/air filters especialy, have you checked the level of the gearbox oil and kickdown cable adjustment?

probably more likely are the brakes sticking on? check the dosuer valve to pedal linkage for adjustment and freeplay, then the claipers for sticking.

Sticking brake cable, doseur valve or calliper are possibilities.

Hi Dean,

It starts the 1st time, no smokes. Engine/ATF is changed every 5k KM and is due soon.
The scenario happens only occasionaly....so i dont suspect its the lack of any fluids. All the spark plugs were changed recently.

What's the kickdown cable? Could it be the ECU acting up?

Yep i think its brake related, the next time it happens see if you can roll the car easily, failing that jack it up and try each wheel in turn to make sure they are free moving.
It really does sound like sticking brakes to me now.

Check the doseur valve actuator as it could be holding the brakes on.

Now is this also known as the 'brake valve' , located front right side?
