C5 Ignition Switch and Remote

Post by xmexclusive » Mon Nov 01, 2010 4:33 pm

Anyone know how you remove a C5 ignition switch from the round aluminum block that unbolts from the steering column?
How do you get the key blade out of the 4 button plip, how does the plip come to bits and where is the C5 remote receiver hidden.

Hi John,

According to the Repair Manual info in my copy of the 2008 Citroen Service Documentation Back Up there is a transponder coil located near the ignition switch and a 'switching module under the steering wheel' which in turn communicates (via multiplexing) with the Built-in systems interface (BSI).

There is only info on how to remove the steering lock, which I think you have already done, but nothing regarding further dismantling I'm afraid.
Also nothing useful regarding dismantling the Plip key. Any C5 owners out there with an owner's manual? - does it have any info on Plip battery replacement ? apart from 'Consult your local Citroen dealer'

Ken

Thanks Ken, will put it in the junk box along with hopefully all the other bits you mention.
I did a general clearance of the car before it went to scrap so I should have most of the bits.

Hi Peter

Not exactly.
The owner broke it, well what do you expect with a HDI, then could not face the repair bill.
I got half a day window just before the scrapman cometh with a list of bits wanted.
Anything else I could get off was mine.
My main interest was the front suspension components to compare with XM ones.
That is written up somewhere on here.

Be HONEST John!!

What was the milage on the car?? Im sure you said around 200k??

The PLIP is a Snap Together item, just needs prizeing apart... The C5 is NOT like the XM or Late Xantias, as said above its all intigrated into the single BSI - thats the fuse box, via the Chip Pickup on the steering colum lock, which should be a simple clip off...

Hi Paul

No real mileage in modern cars is there then.
Modern fancy speedos need a working car to read the mileage.
Youve got the speedo anyway.
I have given the BSI a good shake but got nothing out of it.
You were right about the Plip case springing apart.
Getting the keyblade out required a bit more brute force.
That also broke the plip case but at least I know how they go together now.
