How to get rid of vegetation in sidelights

Post by endorfin » Fri Nov 18, 2011 3:22 pm

I swapped the clear looking sidelights off the free 2.1 that I helped Chris collect on Wednesday as mine were all foggy and aged, I figured it was a fair exchange for helping him get the car to his :D

They needed a good clean as the car it came off had been in a field for 5 years or so. I got most of the green vegetation off but there are still dark green bits stuck around the edges on the inside (see pic) I've tried a fine brush, toothbrust etc but no good as the gap is too thin. I tried to separate the lens but someone has previously glued it on with v strong glue, it will crack if I try to separate them.

Since the thin gap was enough for the veg to get inside, is there any solution available that it can be soaked in that will dissolve the growth and clean out by rinsing in liquid. They don't look too bad but it does spoil the look of the car a bit when fitted.

Just drop the whole lamp into a bucket of bleach, that should kill it off.

Nice idea, will try that, in any case it should bleach the veg so its not noticeable. Won't it damage the reflective coating inside though?

It probably won't damage the silvering, but to be sure why not just bleach the outside with a brush.
