Lexia: Burndy 30-Pin Connector - Sources?

Post by addo » Sun May 27, 2012 7:06 am

I'm referring to the round connector between the Lexia "box" and the diagnostic plug. It has 30 pins available, and sixteen populated.

Almost certainly, the above connector on my Fauxia, is as un-real as the rest of its proudly insigniæd parts...

Following the comments of Forum members here (I think particularly xmexclusive) I compared the Cinch rectangular connector with a real one. Wow! Almost a mil larger on the fake; no wonder they don't fit well. So it makes sense to create a new 30 pin diagnostic plug using recycled genuine elements. Working along those lines, it struck me that having it directly plumbed to a new round connector was the smart fix; this removed the intermediate OBD-II interface.

I found Burndy pins (male and female) in assorted online surplus stockists (mind you, quantities minimum were large) but don't have a reference for the plugs - so no idea what to search for! Can anyone assist with a part number or source at a sane price?

Cheers, Adam.

Hello Paul, here's the connector pair:

Others may offer a compatible plug? I like the inconsistent pin numbering between M&F.

Hi Addo

Following your quest with interest.
Did not reply because its not a route I had chosen.
I had decided that it was a plug with no function other than a rather odd straight connector.
Long term I was intending to remove it and replace with a good quality 16 pin OBD plug.
The points that decided me to go that way were:
Pin usage (only 16 Lexia pod side) and that version 3 of the genuine Lexia 3 has OBD not Burndy plugs.
The fact that the Burndy to Old Citroen 30 pin Oblong leads had all 30 wires connected confused me for ages.
Then I obtained an Old Cit 30 to OBD 16 lead which I checked out and found that it did all that I needed.
Unfortunately it is important to test out any chosen option with your own kit.
The reason is that the 3 versions of the Lexia 3 while broadly compatible do have construction differences.
I now believe that the claims of variable quality Clone construction may not be the full story.
I suspect that the main difference in pcb component count is not a quality or cost issue.
Just that one is a copy of Lexia3 version 1 and the other clone variant a copy of Lexia3 version 2.

Hello John,

My quest is slightly commercial, as I get lumbered with the odd situation others can't grapple. It's been demonstrated by simple wiggling or angling of the fake 30-pin Cinch connector, that better comms are possible. Once I know what the limits are here, your described scenario of different versions will probably be the next obstacle.

If Paul can find a compatible plug/socket, I'll be keen to try it. I'm keen to get dialogue with the variable power steering in Peugeot 605s.

Cheers, Adam.

Hi Addo

Never looked to see what sort of diagnostic connectors is fitted to the 605 or any Pugs.
Fill me in with what you know and save some searching.
I have access to a nearly new condition genuine Lexia3.
Have to go to it as not allowed to take it away from its home.
I used one of my clone 30 pin oblong leads with that with no contact problems.
I will look and compare the real Burndy plugs with the clone ones.
I will be particularly interested to check the pin numbering.

John
