Does anyone know how to disable a alarm on a 2.1 td

Hi I'm thinking about buying a 1995 2.1td Exclusive auto but it is advertised as having a alarm problem which goes off as soon as the battery is connected. Has anyone got any ideas off how I can disable it so I can drive it home cheers mark

My technique is to connect the battery then lock and unlock using the PLIP - otherwise jump in turn on the ignition and press the alarm button on the left hand end of the dash within 10 seconds (method from the manual).

If it only has an alarm and not the immobiliser then there may well be a alarm defeat switch inside the engine bay near the front left hand side.
To disable the alarm you, simply insert the key and turn it.

Here's a picture of where it is on my car (should be very similar, as it is also a '95 2.1TD).

EDIT- the circle I drew round the area in the pic hasn't stored for some reason. It's the little part with the plastic cap (I lifted the cap for the picture).

Hope this helps for you to secure a bargain.

Of course if it has an immobiliser with the keypad just rear of the auto selector then that's a different problem!

I would also do what Ken suggests and lock and unlock with the plip button on the key after connecting the battery.

Hi mark

The underbonnet switch does NOT switch off the alarm, just the siren.
You will still have the headlights flashing.
As has been stated above you MAY be able to get the alarm to reset if the plip works.
If not then the advice about the box under the passenger dash does work.
You will need a Torx screwdriver (T15 or T20, not sure which) for the dash trim.
You only need to remove one of the connector plugs (Grey one I think).
The other plug in the box is the deadlocking which works happily without the alarm.
