Derek, I've just been advised that the cause of all the woe in the C3 I looked at was indeed the battery.

A new and well charged one has made all good again...

Citrojim, I stand in awe!!

The garage called me yesterday, told me that:
1. They had located an intermittent fault on the underbonnet fusebox (which they will change). As John (XMexclusive) will tell you, this fault is a regular occurrence on the Xm. Does Citroen never learn?

2. The battery is well below par. They said that the sensodrive gearbox is very sensitive to battery condition, confirming your diagnosis. Strange, because the battery has always spun the engine over like a mad thing so I told them not to bother, but having read your posting I've just 'phoned them and told them to change it. :D

Cheers, Derek'

Pleased you got it towed ok Derek.
Is the estate now fixed?
The low battery issues are not always shown by a limp start particularly if ECU's are involved.
I killed the current XM car stone dead the other night.
Was parked on a very steep drive at a house I was visiting.
Forget I had left it in reverse after I backed up the slope.
Tried to start in like that with the parking brake full on.
It gave a little lurch backwards and everything died.
No dash lights, no keypad just nothing.
Jumped it to a running car and got a bit of dash back.
Alarm and immo kicked in.
Nothing would reset things.
Took about 15 mins of revving the other car to get some life back into the battery.
Then it restarted the car 4 times in a row with no assistance.
Seems the battery was hit so hard it stopped working.
Then as it slowly recovered it could not put out enough volts to reset the ECU.

John, I apologise for my son. Yes, your pump did the trick and he promised me he would 'phone you that evening to tell you and to thank you. I am very disappointed that he didn't.

I also suggested that he should join this site but I don't suppose he did.
