NS rear door won't open

Wondering if this is a known problem, the rear passenger (NS) door on my S2 estate won't open, either from outside or inside. All other doors open and lock on the remote.

Funny thing is, that other S2 I had off Len (exactly the same as mine) has exactly the same problem, same door.

Don't think it's mechanical, probably electrical. Any ideas?

It would obviously not be the complete answer to your problem, but if the child-lock is set that would not allow opening from the inside. I cannot otherwise see why the door will not open from within! Regards, Matthew T.

I've had this on a Xantia some years ago. iirc, it was the lock unit not fully unlocking, so the lever didn't interface with the release latch.

I got to it by somehow removing the door-card then the exterior handle and operating the lock.

I also had this problem on a xantia years ago. Same door too. The problem in the end was the locking catch in the door that had failed when the dead locks were activated. It took a lot of hammering to break the old lock unit up and get the door to open to enable replacement.

Open front door.
Undo electrical feed plug to rear door.
Clean contacts and try it again.
Wire pins for the dead lock release can be found if needed but this does not get past contact corrosion on the lock contacts.

When that fails.
Open front door.
Undo electrical feed plug to rear door.
Remove two hinge pins.
Lever front edge of door open until you can break, cut or unbolt (2x10mm) the metal hinge strap.
Use the door as a lever to break the lock catch.
Find spare bits to reassemble door.

Sounds like a pain in the proverbial. Does it mean I can't use spares off the other one as the lock has gone on the same side?

I'll try cleaning the contacts this week to see if changes anything. It used to be an intermittent problem then I used to have to press on the door while operating the remote to get it to unlock but now zilch.

Try unlocking the deadlocks a few times using the key in the drivers door lock.
This sometimes gets a release when using the plip fails.
