First drive in an xm.....

Off topic chat about anything you like. Doesn't have to be about XMs (though they will inevitibly come up!). You can even discuss non-Citroens :o in here!

First drive in an xm.....

Post by Vince » Sat Feb 14, 2015 5:34 pm

Im a bit excited as my brother is on his way up tonight to stay over.

I havent seen him much over the last couple of years and when i have i was in the qashqai i had, but he has seen the xm and loved it...BUT, he has never been in it or any other for that matter. He did buy first first sinker xantia that i owned many years ago and loved it, but i want him to take the xm out for a cruise to experience "the star destroyer" as he referred to it once.

Im sure he'll enjoy the experience...especially the foot operated handbrake and the "wont be rushed" manual gearbox :P

I always love seeing the non initiated drive an XM for the first time.

I was at my parents house a couple of years ago and had parked the XM last in the drive, blocking all the other cars in.
My Dad needed to go somewhere so wanted to get his car (ironically a Qasqhai ) out, as I was on the phone at the time I just gave him the keys to the XM and said move it. Having been driven dozens of times in my XMs over the years I assumed he was aware of the foot operating parking brake, so I watched through the window with growing amusement as he spent 5 minutes trying to find and release it. Finally he succeeded, parked the XM in the street, just leaving it in gear (he had no idea how to reapply the brake), and came back in muttering 'How the hell do you drive those things??'

Your brother has some Citroen familiarity so hopefully he'll fare better

Lovely cars the XM's but it would be more entertaining to see someone driving a CX for the first time, it took me a bit of time to get used to but I drove nothing else for about 10 years.
